A geofence is a technology that makes use of location data to set up an invisible barrier in the real world.
Often the technology uses GPS, but it can also use other data signals such as cellular, WiFi or RFID.
You can't see or feel anything when you pass through a geofence, but if you are carrying a connected device, it will send out a signal that you have crossed the electronic boundary.
This may trigger a programmed action - such as a message to appear on your phone, or in the case of Ford's internet-connected cars, impose a speed limit.

Added feature - if you have dirt on the Clinton/Biden/Obama cabal, it automatically speeds up to 100 mph and hits a tree.

That’s another thing about these self driving cars they want to put out there. You think those things are going to drive over the speed limit? Yeah right! LOL LOL LOL! “Quick! Take me to the hospital, I’m having a heart attack” “Sorry sir, the speed limit here is 15 mph”

I think that feature should be a requirement for all vehicles owned or operated by any governmental organization. After all we want all government employees to be driving safely.
Also, as a part of that system those cars should report their location in real time so that the taxpayers can be confident that the employees of the government are working and doing their jobs properly. That data should be available as an overlay on Google maps or similar services.
To: fruser1
they already have:
1. gps’s that put you in lakes, ponds, and rivers.
2. self-driving cars that put you through walls, through traffic, through pedestrians.
3. what could go wrong?
To: GrandJediMasterYoda
Add that to the destination restrictions placed on you because of your social score. Sorry, you can’t go to the restaurant because you said something unapproved on social media.

Ford: “Leave the driving up to us.” I don’t think so. IMHO, this borders on criminality. Who’s liable if this software breaks and I’m allowed to speed in a school district and get a ticket?

With all the “features” they’ve mandated and proposed lately, it looks like I’ll be keeping my current car for a long time.

The other day I was driving down the interstate and passed a brand new semi- cab. I swear no one was at the wheel and I couldn’t see anyone in the passenger seat.

You have an excellent point. If it controls the car, it can control it unsafely.
Carjacking would certainly be easier, if the car stopped and unlocked itself for the carjacker, too.

You can also go the other way and turn your 1990 Cadillac Sedan DeVille into a mobile device that slows down new vehicles. What fun!

Nah. They'll patent it and get the government to mandate it in all new cars. GM tried that years ago with Daytime Running Lights (wreaked havoc on military bases), but didn't quite pull it off in the U.S. Now every neighborhood in Canada looks like a funeral procession.
