fter a White House statement appeared to walk back President Joe Biden's commitment to help defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion, several Republicans are calling for a firm commitment to a military response, should one be needed.
During a news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Monday, Biden was asked if he was willing to "get involved militarily" to defend Taiwan, and he responded that he was.
"That's the commitment we made," the president said.
But shortly after Biden made the remark, a White House official released a statement saying: "As the President said, our policy has not changed. He reiterated our One China Policy and our commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also reiterated our commitment under the Taiwan Relations Act to provide Taiwan with the military means to defend itself."

GOP is always on board.
Except Guns, they sense a line there.

When I see these Coolie ships I just want to pump torpedoes into them.
“What the heck is going on?”
It’s a bad Opera. And the bad guys appear to be winning.
Corporate doesn’t want that.
Didn’t Biden come out and say this on his own?
“There is no legitimate or clear US government anymore.”
It may not be legitimate but it is certainly clear that the military/industrial complex along with our billionaire oligarchs are the ones running the show. What the people want is irrelevant.
What’s the over and under on how many Americans starve to death before 2024?
I think Biden would hit the big, red button that says, “Launch”, thinking that he is ordering a sandwich.
And China is the top holder of US debt. Over a trillion dollars of it.
What have we given to Ukraine. I bet we have given less than 25% og the arms and money we claim to. It’s all hype.
These guys might consider this is the pentagon that ran away from Afghanistan troops first leaving the base to the taliban and their Allie’s
What complete and utter idiots
If our politicians didn’t send all our jobs to China this wouldn’t be a problem.
Wonder why the administration is acting the coy virgin over Taiwan when it is no holes barred, hell-for-leather war over Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Probably. I don’t know why people aren’t a little more concerned about having a mentally incompetent person in charge.
The Dems are trying to control him, but they can’t without removing him...not saying the Dem policies are good, because they’re actually awful...but Biden himself has no idea what they are and says whatever crosses what remains of his mind.
The only good thing is that most of the world realizes this and is actually not holding the US responsible. However, if this isn’t dealt with, they will do so soon. And that would not be good for us.
Politics is getting out of hand. Political gamesmanship should take a back seat behind national security, domestic security and the general welfare of the people. As I see it, the Swamp is failing miserably on all counts.
The “Republicans” in question seem to be Kinzinger, Cotton and Scott.
Biden’s bluster comes just after he removed tariffs on China. Maybe these “Republicans” should look at that issue.
I like to say that this is what happens when you mail-order a meat puppet to run the nation.
Forward Joe!!
There is a substantial difference between preventing war through strength and encouraging war through weakness. We cannot protect our allies if we are weak. This way leads to war. Here we are!
