Russian energy giant Gazprom said on Saturday it had suspended all gas deliveries to Finland after Helsinki refused to pay in roubles.

Finnish state energy company Gasum did not accept the terms set by Moscow by the 20 May deadline, leading Gazprom to "completely stopped gas deliveries," the Russian group said in a statement.

"As of 1 April, gas payments must be made in roubles using new bank details, which the partners were informed of in good time," Gazprom said.

I hope that European nations are not looking to the US and POTATUS to lead, on this.

Although contracts don't mean quite as much between states (who exactly enforces them?), Russia certainly did have "Force majeure" conditions in its contracts, including provisions for "sanctions."

The Western European and American insistence that it can freeze accounts, and deny Russia the ability to trade in Euros or Dollars, but still insist that Russia should take payment is Euros or Dollars is absolutely childish. It shows they operate only in a realm of PR and political spin, and reveals how unserious they are.

Of course they want roubles. I don’t blame them. If they go through the petroleum dollars the US will take them.

When the US went there the game totally changed.

Was it in the contract when Dementia Joe regime illegally seized Russia’s assets in the west? Well this is Russia’s oil ad gas, and they are not going to continue giving it to Finland for nothing. What is Finland going to do about it?

Finland doesn’t depend on Russian gas very much….and it’s mid to late Spring.

Good for the Finns.

The “contract” is null and void.

Joe the pig face pr#ck bidet made sure of that.

It is Russia’s gas and oil, and they can sell it however they like.

Now Russia will be stuck with a pipeline going to nowhere. Morons!

“Finland’s state-owned Gasum said in a statement Saturday that it would continue to supply gas to its customers via the Balticconnector pipeline, which taps into neighboring Estonia’s gas grid.”

“Natural gas accounts for approximately 5% of Finland‘s total energy consumption.”

Russia is far better off not wasting a lot of money producing gas that they are not getting paid for. Can you get that?

Don’t you just love when a poster confirms they know nothing about what they are talking about?

Finland is one of the smart countries. Almost all their power comes from a mix of nukes and hydro. The amount of gas they buy is tiny.

inland is one of the smart countries.

They are so “smart’ they relied on Russia for their natural gas, despite President Trump trying hard to get them to stop relying on Russia for 4 straight years?

Almost all their power comes from a mix of nukes and hydro.

So why were they relying on Russia fir their natural gas when they had plenty of chances to change suppliers in past years?

I get how their ruble stunt blew up in their face on this one. Maybe they can sell that pipeline to nowhere for scrap metal.

The Rubble is the best performing big currency this year on the planet, performing far better than Biden's dollars.
Yup, that “blew up in Russia's face” alright

You are so right!! And, yes, the game did change. Slightly for the Ruskies and, more important, dramatically for those of us in the west and the US.

The hair-brain, elite, geniuses in Washington launched a humongous boomerang that hit us like a nuke. Today we have shortages of everything from baby formula to diesel and inflation is at 9% and will continue on its upward spiral to who knows what.

Gas, a critical commodity that almost all Americans depend on every day, is now approaching $6.00 a gallon (who would have thought just six months ago) and diesel, the energy for our supply system (trucking and trains) will soon be at $7 a gallon — if it can be found at all.

Putin DID NOT do this. The all-seeing, wizard, ivy league elite idiots in DC have done this to us with their crazy, ill-conceived, boomerang sanctions!

Expect this to get worse!!

Do without Russian gas, I would imagine.

Or not sell it, as the case may be.
