Two Virginia schools which had been named after Confederate generals and soldiers and which changed their names in the wake of the 2020 murder of George Floyd, are to revert back to their earlier names.

Oh my, even “gallant Ashby” owned slaves? Up in the Shenandoah region? Jackson hailed from (what became) WV; he had slaves? or knew anyone who did?
Good news! Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were great American heroes.
Martin Luther King was a very flawed individual (accusations of plagiarism, abuse of women, etc.). But he was absolutely the right person at the right time for this country. Plus his emphasis on religion and nonviolence make him a good role model for young blacks who desperately need one. So I have no problem with MLK memorials.
On the other hand, any recognition of BLM is a travesty.
Lest anyone forget where this history erasing originated, it was with Nimrata Randhawa in SC years before this.
It’s always ironic that every single last Leftist “martyr” is a god-hating, soulless, evil demon deep down.

Jackson owned slaves for most of his adult life. So what?
Sanity beginning to return?
Sorry they changed the names in response to the death of Floyd, but why should we honor generals who led the charge for slavery rather than freedom? Slavery was wrong, period, and conservatives clinging to the old South need to get over it.
Yeah...that’s it!
And here I was thinking it stood for “BoweL Movement”. My bad even though I don’t see the difference.
And that woman of color, Sheila Jackson-Lee has kept her name throughout all this.

This is great news, but I’m foreseeing blm and antifa pulling som eking of retaliation/intimidation crap. Hopefully, they dont,, but knowing them they are gonna be pissed we wil. see how they react. Hopefully the school reinstates the statues and arrests anyone trying to destroy them fro here on out.

I struggle with that a bit. Some Confederate generals fought for states’ rights. I can’t fault them there. Others fought to preserve slavery, and that’s a problem. But every person must be judged within the context of their times. So there’s that.
I suppose a fair analogy might be with American Indians. Chiefs like Sitting Bull and Geronimo are respected in this country. Yet they were America’s enemies. If we can honor them, I suppose we can honor Lee and Jackson - not for what they stood for but for the content of their characters.
By accepting that they were men of their times and views towards slavery were not the same then as they are now.
I’d love to have the stationary printing contract with those schools.
Lee and Jackson didn’t fight for slavery, they fought for their homeland - Virginia.
Jackson violated state law when he educated his slaves.
