One Texas restaurant owner is doing all he can to feed the babies in his community amid the baby formula shortage that has swept the nation.
Benji Arslanovski, who owns Our Place Restaurant in Mansfield, Texas, has been giving away formula to local families who have been hard-pressed to find the precious product, KDFW reported.
During an interview on Fox News Channel’s Fox and Friends Friday morning, he told host Steve Doocy that he has given away more than 300 cans thus far, adding that Texas Health of Mansfield has offered to pitch in on the effort by donating 105 cans.

That’s interesting that a restaurant supplier (US Foods) would stock baby formula.
Good for this fella. I’m sure he is making some customers for life!
Why doesn’t the restaurant just tell the people where they buy it from?
The article says where he got it from. US Foods, a food distributor for restaurants.
For the most part, they don’t sell to the public, only to restaurants. (There are a few places where they have retail stores that the public can use, but very very few). For example, in the DFW area, they might have one such store. And then, you’d have to buy a case at a time.
Possibly because, as a restaurant, he can get it wholesale …….and as a kind man, he is taking care of his community.
….
As an example of the US Foods retail stuff, there was such a store near (10 miles) where I lived. The only time I’d go there is if I was having or helping with a big, big party (150+ people).
You’d get 5 gallon buckets of coleslaw, guacamole, picante sauce, large boxes of tortilla chips (all in 1 bag within the box), boxes of rolls, boxes of burger patties, boxes of tomatoes or green peppers and so on. It wasn’t like Costco or Sam’s Club. The place allowed people without an account to buy restaurant-scaled foods.
That’s enough coleslaw for your entire zip code.
We always had leftovers, but cheaper than buying smaller quantities from Costco
He can probably get it when they can’t - and he’s giving it away...cut him some slack.
Sugesting how he could possibly accomplish it with less effort was cutting him some slack.
Can confirm that’s how wholesale restaurant/food distributors sell stuff. They have enormous minimum purchase quantities and most of them are not open to the general public; this is where Sam’s Club and Costco got their start - they took wholesale distributor-scale goods and made them available to anyone who wanted to pay for a membership.
One restaurant (sports bar and grill) I worked IT for had issues with some ingredient (I don’t remember what) they needed on a semi-regular basis but had to buy a minimum of a half-pallet load. The issue was “where do we put all the boxes from the pallet” as they didn’t have a lot of storage room and there was a *lot* of creative reorganizing going on in the walk-in freezer when they got a shipment in.

In the villiage of Potemkin, by any chance?
Thing is, Europe and Asia aren’t having shortages of formula right now. They also make formula to different standards than we do, so they can’t just ship it over here - does not meet FDA standards and therefore can’t be sold or even shipped here for distribution.
The formula shortage is North America only.
He is GIVING it away...your “cutting him some slack” is telling him to be lazy and stop doing his good deeds.
Some people won’t just keep taking free stuff from a restaurant without feeling obligated to eat at the restaurant too.
I doubt he is some simple minded dolt that can’t do two things at the same time.
Nothing like working overtime to piss on someone’s good deed.
Are you somehow related to this person? Is this your uncle or brother or father? Nothing like being closed minded and not trying to figure out the best way to help the most people. Did you ever hear of “Not Invented Here” syndrome? It’s where people get all pissy if someone suggest changes to what they came up with.
I would give the formula away for free but also accept donations. That would bring in the people who could not buy it wholesale but won’t accept charity. Do the most good for the most people.
