In his revised New York state congressional maps — the final version of which was released 12:17 a.m. Saturday — Special Master Jonathan Cervas tossed aside Democratic gerrymandering to create a slew of intriguing new districts, some of which could fracture the established political landscape.
In Manhattan, the new 12th district will pit the East Side’s Rep. Carolyn Maloney against the West Side’s Rep. Jerry Nadler. The two liberal warhorses have been in Congress three decades.
A new 10th district covering lower Manhattan and a slice of Brooklyn — suddenly without an incumbent — may create an opening for former Mayor de Blasio, who threw his hat into the ring on Friday. He faces a strong progressive challenge from Mondaire Jones.
The map also created no fewer than eight competitive districts — where neither party received more than 55% of the average vote in the 2016 and 2020 Presidential elections.
With the current Democratic majority in the House hanging by a thread of just five seats in November, the Empire State’s new districts have the potential to swing the Congressional balance of power for the entire country. Here are the eight in play.

In all but the most disastrously bad years, the GOP should hold a minimum of 6 seats. This year, they could break 11.
This revision along with the DeSantis map in Florida absolutely destroys the surrender monkey doomer brigade's prognostication of doom regarding redistricting.
Taking into account incumbency GOP should come away with a net 3-5 seat gain from redistricting alone as compared to current maps. The upper end of that is enough to get the GOP majority apart from the wave that is building.
I'm sure the trailer trash brigade will be along shortly to explain why this actually doesn't matter, and we are all doomed anyway, but as prediction after prediction of destruction falls, utter powerlessness the doomer class has begins to show, and the laughter at them become all the louder.
:-)
WE’RE SCREWED
“NY-17 — Westchester and Rockland
The district sprawls from Ossining to Yorktown to Carmel, and Democrats have the edge.
The chaos could provide an opening for Republican Assemblyman Mike Lawler, who has indicated he is getting into the race.”
The only reason this goes rat is because Ossining and Peekskill- the rest of the of the areas are strong red towns. Lawler would be a terrific candidate.
TexasGurl24, your logic and statistical analysis is upsetting the FReeper trolls and morons who are taking over this site! No positive vibes allowed here, don’t you know??
Allowing a “Special Master” to craft Congressional Districts is insane. The future of that approach if carried forward and if expanded to other states will eventually mean that the voter will have no say in how Congressional Districts are chosen. Special Masters will become the tool of the ruling class who will have no fear of the voter. It means the end of the Republic.
Those wonderful “Non-Partisan Commissions” have already demonstrated that they invariably deliver districts that favor the ruling class. Likewise those Non-Partisan Judiciary Review Panels.
Voters and their elected Representatives should drive Congressional Redistricting, selecting judges, the manner of elections, etc., etc. Abrogating their power and their responsibility will destroy what is left of self rule.
Unless the elected Republican is MAGA, there’s nothing to jump up and down for.
That only happened because the Democrats ignored the State Constitution. They got greedy and they paid the price for it.
Dutchess and Orange are Shall Issue.
Maloney would get monkey hammered if he ran in the new 18th.
So, steal the seat from the new Commie Prog Black Guy Jones.
Nadler will get Crushed by Carolyn Maloney.
Other Maloney gone from the 18th and Shat the Bloomers Nads gone too?
Pubes should be very happy.
What are the categories - worst, worster, worstest?
Voters DON’T have a say in how congressional districts are chosen. Never have. All voters get to do is decide which party gets to gerrymander the districts. Special Masters, if they’re ACTUALLY unaligned AND don’t get direct party data, are the right way to do it. Break the duopoly.
You missed my point, but that doesn’t surprise me.
Dan, if you scratch your head you’ll find a point.
Oh, you’re funny.
Major changes are happening here. People who voted for a very conservative republican representative are being handed off to a liberal democrat representative. And at the last minute too.
