She is the author of How to Lose the Information War (2020), on Russian use of disinformation as geopolitical strategy, and How to Be a Woman Online (2022), a handbook for fighting against online harassment of women. In April 2022, she was appointed executive director of the United States Department of Homeland Security's Disinformation Governance Board, but resigned in May after questions started to emerge about her work with Ukrainian Organization “StopFake” whose been criticized after a Ukrainian journalist, published an article on Zaborona detailing links between leaders of far-right and neo-Nazi groups and the directors of StopFake.org. Following this, the journalist was targeted for harassment and threats, and personal information of her and her son were posted online by the Zelensky Administration and Zelensky Governments Intelligence Agencies. The journalist was later forced to flee for her and her sons life according to the Guardian and many other Western Media Outlets and Human Rights Groups.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Career
A double-major in Russian and political science, Jankowicz graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 2011 and spent a semester at Herzen State Pedagogical University in Russia in 2010.[7][8] In 2017, she was a Fulbright fellow in Kyiv, working with the foreign ministry of Ukraine.[9] She has also served as a disinformation fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center and as supervisor of the Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute.[10]
