Does this means property taxes are going down? (I kid, of course they aren’t)

“The teachers unions destroyed the public school system in states led by Democrats.”

EXACTLY!

“school funding is tied to enrollment”

Get woke, go broke.

This is an organic grassroots housecleaning. MAJOR disappointment has been the GOP sitting on the sidelines.

“If this results in creating a critical mass of homeschooled kids then that would be great. In areas with lots of homeschoolers, the homeschoolers organize to supplant the teaching with sports, clubs, and other opportunities for socializing.”

Makes sense. And the kids will be better off for it.

With declining birthrates, the schools in CA were facing closures and teacher layoffs in the 80s - the solution was a new policy that “schools are not the INS” - verifying citizenship for enrollment was not their job. Thus, those empty seats were filled with illegals, with no loss of teacher jobs or cash flow to the teacher’s unions.

I have always felt that the tacit agreement was that teachers accept all these illegal, non-English speaking kids - and the additional work burden they represent - but the teacher would not be judged by their progress.

When George W Bush instituted “No Child Left Behind”, it required that these kids be tested and that the teachers WOULD be judged on their progress. And though you would THINK teachers would applaud a system that expected all children to learn and progress, they were furious. Thus all the propaganda about the horrors of “teaching to the test”.

Anyone who has a kid in AP classes knows that it’s ALL ABOUT teaching to the test, for the very simple reason that the test measures what you have learned on that subject. That’s the whole point of the class.

Yes, and my taxes go up again. Infrastructure/roads/etc go by the way-side.

LGB!

Same here. Phone calls, mailings. Sick of it. In fact I am a little paranoid.
People are so crazy and bolder now, they could come into my home and take over.
Does happen.

I’m afraid it’s going to get real bad.

Problem seems to be that 20-30 year-olds are just not having kids.

...an inevitable consequence of The State inserting itself into the family. Also a consequence of burdening their generation with insurmountable debt.

Just say NO!

You’ll need that $250k for gas and groceries, if you can find them.

I don’t know the reason for it. It just seems to me as a geezer that there is a reluctance to embrace adulthood.

My uncle taught freshman math at a UC in California. He said students coming in don’t know basic fractions - and this is students who were accepted to a University of California.

Of the many good reasons to keep one's kids OUT of public school, fuzzy math and sight-reading are among the top contenders.

High schools promote graduation of students who have no grasp of fundamental civics, basic science knowledge, and our wonderful American History. They so frequently have difficulty writing and speaking in even simple sentences.

“Districts need audits.”

Yup. I would never trust any numbers coming out of an urban school district administration.

They have too strong an incentive to inflate the numbers and game the system.
