On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “MTP Daily,” Senate Majority Whip Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) stated that “we’re dealing with a transitional economy, coming from a shutdown economy under COVID-19, reemerging, creation of jobs at record levels, but with it, comes the fires of inflation.” And there’s also “a lot” of price gouging.
Durbin stated that poor poll numbers for Democrats reflect “history’s reality that off-year elections are not kind to the president’s party. That’s the starting point. Secondly, we’re dealing with a transitional economy, coming from a shutdown economy under COVID-19, reemerging, creation of jobs at record levels, but with it, comes the fires of inflation. Every family’s feeling that. They want to know that Democrats are going to do something to change it. The president has used several tools in his kit. For example, releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was one, dealing with agricultural prices is another. There will be more jawboning, if you will, of those who are price gouging, and that’s happening at gas stations. It’s happening with baby formula. We’re finding a lot of that insidious activity taking place. So, we need to be identified with that effort and helping families find an affordable place where they can deal with this economy.”

I think my chocolate ration just increased to 20 grams.
Say What?
The only “insidious” activity with respect to inflation comes ftom the government.
Typical Democrats....blame others.
It is not defunding police and tolerance of gangs that lead to high homicide rates....it is the availability of tools, like guns.
It is not a shortage of oil, driving up the price of a commodity....it is greed by oil companies that make less per gallon than government.
It is not an FDA that sat on its hands since October while baby formula went into shortages....it is price gouging by companies.
To Durbin, producers covering their costs equals “price gouging”.
Democrat polices created these disasters ... period ... but naturally, they whine “it’s not our fault” ... “circumstances are beyond our control” ... “there’s nothing we can do” ... “we’re working REALLY hard” ... “it’s the other guy’s fault” ...Democrats always offer excuses rather than fixes, because actual fixes are always diametrically opposed to Democrat ideology ... Democrats: the party of “can’t do and f@@k you” ...
Biden's tried every excuse and rationalization there is.
The next ones will be:
Where Democrats can tell people that it is the end of the month, as opposed to the middle, and MSNBC will certainly not question such a pronouncement.
“To Durbin, producers covering their costs equals “price gouging”.
Well when it comes to goughing I got a little ancedote.
Was trying to park outside a stadium for daughters graduation.Nearby private land owners where selling parking spots...Going rate was usually $5.00...well this guy wanted $10...I remarked, wow inflation! or something to that effect. His response...”everybody else is raising prices, why can I?”
Gougher.
Vintage Stalin. Blame the businesses, then begin to bring them under govt ownership.
Paying people not to work so they fall off counting them in the unemployment numbers isn’t record employment.
LOL! Only a democrat, whose brains can’t even grasp an economic concept of inflation, would say that it’s price gouging!
Everyone’s costs have gone up.
The farmer who fuels up his tractor, and who has to paid a lot more for parts that take 3 months to arrive. The trucker, in that very same boat. The food processing plant, can’t find enough workers, and has to pay the ones they have twice what they were paying them last year, and that’s when airplanes aren’t flying into their warehouses and causing fires.
Now that’s three steps for the price of a food item to get more expensive, and that doesn’t even account for the trucks to take the food from the plant to a distribution center, or to pay workers at distribution, or for the retailers, who also have to raise prices to pay workers enough to actually show up and clock in.
I’m sure there are lots of additional costs in this hypothetical supply path that were miss, but to Dick Durbin, it’s just one evil guy somewhere jacking up prices. He does so arbitrarily, because his products magically appear from out of thin air, and have nothing to do with higher costs snowballing everything up.
Really? Parking spots?
Next you’ll complain of price gouging on the increase in price of crack rocks.
Durbin isn’t speaking about the underground economy. He’s speaking of grocery stores and merchandise vendors.
That is how the market works, right?
If he gets enough customers who are willing to pay twice the going rate, he stays in business and prospers.
However, if people drive up, see the going rate is twice what is being asked, then do a u-turn and drive up the street to one of the lots charging half as much (even though the walk may be longer) then...his flag wavers he hired for the day might have to be paid out of his own pocket.
It’s that invisible hand, people voting for goods and services with dollar bills held high in their hands which sets the price of those goods and services.
Of course, all the lot owners can get together and start a cartel and fix their prices...
Then people will decide to attend the event with three couples in one car rather than get three separate cars with one couple in each. Or, someone will rent a bus for a day, and pick up people at their hotel or somewhere else where parking is far cheaper.
(Heh, that Thomas Sowell is starting to rub off on me! I am starting to sound just like him...:)

Listening to career politicians talk about anything is like listening to Manson debating Geraldo.

The fools. They should have taken Nobel Prize for Economics prospect Biden’s advice: cut costs, except for wages. This is an obvious solution and it’s quite amazing that it had never been considered before.
