Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive: Zelensky spoke about the evacuation of azovstal defenders
https://news.obozrevatel.com ^ | 17.05.2022 | Sofia Zakrevskaya

On Monday, May 16, some of the defenders of the azovstal iron and steel works were taken to the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region. Subsequently, they will be exchanged for prisoners of the Russian invaders.

This information was confirmed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a video message to the Ukrainian people (to view it, scroll to the end of the page). Among the soldiers there are seriously wounded, they are receiving medical assistance.

"Thanks to the actions of the Ukrainian military – the Armed Forces of Ukraine, intelligence, as well as the negotiation group, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN, we hope that we will be able to save the lives of our children...I want to emphasize that Ukraine needs Ukrainian heroes alive. This is our principle. I think that every adequate person will understand these words," the head of state said. Video of the day

He noted that the work on the return of Ukrainian soldiers home continues. This work requires delicacy and time.

Note that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the following: 53 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers were evacuated from Azovstal to a medical facility in Novoazovsk. Another 211 people were taken to Yelenovka via the humanitarian corridor.

For the subsequent return of Fighters home, an exchange procedure will be carried out.

Zelensky also said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back constant attacks in those areas where Russia is still trying to attack. According to him, Severodonetsk and other cities of Donbass are still the main target for the invaders.

"We are doing everything possible to protect our land and our people," he stressed.

Earlier, the commander of the Azov Regiment, Denis Prokopenko, whose military personnel are on the defensive at Azovstal, appealed to the Ukrainian people. He recalled that for 82 days the defenders of Mariupol held the defense and pulled back significant enemy forces in order to allow Ukraine to gain time and get Western weapons.

Now the entire Mariupol garrison" for the sake of saving lives fulfills the approved decision of the high military command " and asks Ukrainians for support.

Subsequently, Reuters reported that about ten buses left the territory of the azovstal iron and steel works, filled with evacuated people. Among them are military personnel who were seriously injured. It was reported that they were taken to the temporarily occupied Novoazovsk in the Donetsk region.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the mother of the defender of Mariupol spoke about the terrible situation at the azovstal iron and steel works. According to her, amputations of wounded soldiers are performed without anesthesia, since there are no medicines.

“I agree with you, but DC & Kiev say “Nyet.””

Actually it’s pretty well documented that it was DC and London. Zelensky was willing to talk seriously early in the war, once he figured out that Russia was serious - but then Boris Johnson quickly flew there and told him that wasn’t acceptable. And after Johnson left, the Azovs were there, in his government, to make sure Zelensky didn’t try anything cute.

The best way to keep them alive is to negotiate a peace.

If they negotiate a peace, they might not get 40 Billion dollars, some of which will go to pay the salaries, benefits and pensions of Ukrainian government workers.

40 Billion is 40,000 payments of ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH. It is a number so big that it is difficult to imagine.

“So the Ukies can start shelling the ethnic Russians in the Donbass provinces all over again? The Donbass declared their Independence from Ukraine in 2014/15, a major factor in this regional conflict.”

Unless Russia is able to trust Ukraine, Russia will need to control a Ukrainian buffer zone west of Donbas, just to prevent renewed shelling of Russian areas. Similar to what Israel had in Southern Lebanon (and should have kept).

“ Although they are calling it a SURRENDER, they SURRENDERED. And, IMHO, there’s no shame in that when a unit is out of all means to fight/resist. It’s kinda funny to see Zelenskyy change his tune to “we need our heroes alive”

The corrupt sleezeball Zelensky could have gotten them out many weeks ago when the Ruskies took Mariupol. It is simple. Give the order to leave their hole in the ground and surrender. It is that easy and they come out alive.

Didn’t happen. Zelenzky was preoccupied with shaking down the groveling western so-called leaders and hosting his clown show. He could not be bothered with such a trivial matter as his soldiers/Nazis.

“WHY?”

Answer: Think long-term - the West will become much, much, poorer - due to the Green New Deal making energy incredibly expensive and unreliable.

But if the West cannot drive Putin and his supporters from power, Russia will do JUST FINE, with very cheap energy, plenty of resources, plenty of food, and still a huge chunk of the world to trade with.

It will be a reverse of the Cold War, where the West was prosperous, and the Soviet Block was a basket case. Assuming that elections somehow remain free in the West, the public there will NEVER tolerate that.

That’s why Russia is such a threat to them, and needs to be eliminated in its present form...even to the extent of risking WW3.

Agree: Russia withdraws to pre-2014 status.

Russia will never give up Crimea. When they annexed it in 2014 after the US/EU engineered coup, the Russians took over Crimea virtually without firing a shot. Almost 90% of the voters favored rejoining Russia in a plebiscite. Given the importance of Crimea to Russia's security, i.e., the headquarters of its Black Sea naval forces, Russia will not relinquish it. Non-negotiable.

Crappy map quality, but it does get the point. I’ve hearing that Poland is planning on getting their piece of Ukraine, as the map shows and that explains their behavior - if the war ended quickly, Ukraine would have remained pretty much intact, so no goodies for Poland. Now Ukraine is fair game, and Poland will get this share.

some high ranking intelligence and military officials stuck there that they don’t want captured by the Russians.

I think so too, and notice how this possibility has dropped from the news. It’s hard to believe that these people forced amputations on their wounded, just to keep from surrendering.

Exactly, much being discussed about this. Which why many here have a stroke when I say ironically, Russia and China is the world’s last hope from the Globalists agenda.
America was defeated by vegetable head in office, under Trump the US was the MAIN obstacle, now watch as they turn viciously against Russia and China ( and all others) who oppose their agenda.

I agree with you, but DC & Kiev say “Nyet.”

According to Blinken and company, the decision is up to Ukraine, not us. The US will support whatever peace agreement the Ukrainians negotiate with Russia.

Zelensky and DC want Crimea and two other regions back for Ukraine. The war must go on until these objectives are met.

The Russians will never give up Crimea. How long will Ukraine be able to sustain the death and destruction of their country? They are among the world's biggest exporters of wheat and fertilizer. How long will the Ukraine be able to sustain the global pressure for them to be able to supply these needed commodities? There are already 5.5 million Ukrainian refugees and another 10 million displaced internally. Many of the refugees will never come back. False bravado to say the war will go on. The damage done in a little less than 3 months is already catastrophic.

It is worth remembering that a war has been ongoing in the Donbas region for over 8 years with thousands of deaths.

The Ukraine & US formalized our “ad hoc” alliance in 2008 & 2021 with two documents being signed by both parties. Those documents are called “US Ukraine Charter for Strategic Partnership.”

Not a treaty approved by Congress. Not worth the paper it is written on. Rather than focusing only on coercing Russia, the Biden administration should push Kyiv to take steps toward implementing its obligations under the Minsk II agreement, which Ukraine has shown little desire to do since the deal was brokered six years ago.

The U.S.-Ukraine Charter on Strategic Partnership was signed on November 10, 2021 in the midst of the Russian buildup on the Ukrainian border. It was like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Especially this paragraph:

Guided by the April 3, 2008 Bucharest Summit Declaration of the NATO North Atlantic Council and as reaffirmed in the June 14, 2021 Brussels Summit Communique of the NATO North Atlantic Council, the United States supports Ukraine’s right to decide its own future foreign policy course free from outside interference, including with respect to Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO.

Very nice map, taking into consideration “ Ukraine “ has only been a “ country “ since 1991, (the most corrupted in the world by the way), I could support those borders, as would many surrounding them. There is a REASON the Ukies were DENIED entrance to both the EU and NATO since their statehood in 1991.

Non western news agencies have reported the same, as it was noted at least three huge attempts to fly them out all failed ( Ukie losses of at least six helicopters), something is of great embarrassing importance hold up like rats, which is why Vlad is not destroying them with bunker busters, he wants them alive ( at least bodies that can be identified).

On that note, Kadyrov is on record capturing huge amounts of US Stingers and Javelins in the Mariupol area, ironically, it was said ( not confirmed) a captured US Stinger shot down a lead Ukie rescue chopper foiling one attempt.

How long before those captured Stingers are used against us on US soil? Kadyrov is an Islamist, and is on record ( confirmed on video) for “ thanking the old man” for his gifts. He also stated the captured Javelins were put to good use.

“Not a treaty approved by Congress. Not worth the paper it is written on.”

Agreed,

Its like an environmental agreement recognized and implemented by the executive branch without Senate approval.

Which is very common when it comes to controversial foreign policy matters.

These were members of the Azov Battalion. Ok they are called heroes, but they are fascist nonetheless. So Ukraine got their fascist element back, not sure if it’s really so good for Ukraine to have them.
