I agree with you, but DC & Kiev say “Nyet.”

According to Blinken and company, the decision is up to Ukraine, not us. The US will support whatever peace agreement the Ukrainians negotiate with Russia.

Zelensky and DC want Crimea and two other regions back for Ukraine. The war must go on until these objectives are met.

The Russians will never give up Crimea. How long will Ukraine be able to sustain the death and destruction of their country? They are among the world's biggest exporters of wheat and fertilizer. How long will the Ukraine be able to sustain the global pressure for them to be able to supply these needed commodities? There are already 5.5 million Ukrainian refugees and another 10 million displaced internally. Many of the refugees will never come back. False bravado to say the war will go on. The damage done in a little less than 3 months is already catastrophic.

It is worth remembering that a war has been ongoing in the Donbas region for over 8 years with thousands of deaths.

The Ukraine & US formalized our “ad hoc” alliance in 2008 & 2021 with two documents being signed by both parties. Those documents are called “US Ukraine Charter for Strategic Partnership.”

Not a treaty approved by Congress. Not worth the paper it is written on. Rather than focusing only on coercing Russia, the Biden administration should push Kyiv to take steps toward implementing its obligations under the Minsk II agreement, which Ukraine has shown little desire to do since the deal was brokered six years ago.

The U.S.-Ukraine Charter on Strategic Partnership was signed on November 10, 2021 in the midst of the Russian buildup on the Ukrainian border. It was like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Especially this paragraph:

Guided by the April 3, 2008 Bucharest Summit Declaration of the NATO North Atlantic Council and as reaffirmed in the June 14, 2021 Brussels Summit Communique of the NATO North Atlantic Council, the United States supports Ukraine’s right to decide its own future foreign policy course free from outside interference, including with respect to Ukraine’s aspirations to join NATO.

Agreed,

Its like an environmental agreement recognized and implemented by the executive branch without Senate approval.

Which is very common when it comes to controversial foreign policy matters.
