NATO Should Be Obsolete
Citizen Truth ^ | 12/5/19 | MEDEA BENJAMIN

While claiming to “preserve peace,” NATO has a history of bombing civilians and committing war crimes.

The three smartest words that Donald Trump uttered during his presidential campaign are “NATO is obsolete.” His adversary, Hillary Clinton, retorted that NATO was “the strongest military alliance in the history of the world.” Now that Trump has been in power, the White House parrots the same worn line that NATO is “the most successful Alliance in history, guaranteeing the security, prosperity, and freedom of its members.” But Trump was right the first time around: Rather than being a strong alliance with a clear purpose, this 70-year-old organization that met in London on December 4 is a stale military holdover from the Cold War days that should have gracefully retired many years ago.

I’m well aware of the shortness of time.

Why the smear? And why should I “lighten up?” You are the one that made the accusation, n00b.

Since you retreated to the Twilight Zone of your weak mind... Here is what you and your CODEPINK author doesn't like:
Trump White House - NATO is “the most successful Alliance in history, guaranteeing the security, prosperity, and freedom of its members.”

The author is the co-founder of Code Pink.

“NATO should have declared victory in the cold war and terminated in 1995.”

And what nuclear arms, or militay divisions, facing western Europe did Russia terminate in 1995?

Which countries are in NATO?
There are currently 30 member states of NATO, with 3 aspiring states.

The 12 founding states, who signed the initial 1949 treaty, are:

United States
United Kingdom
Belgium
Canada
Denmark
France
Iceland
Italy
Luxembourg
The Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Greece and Turkey joined the alliance in 1952, with Spain joining in 1982.

West Germany joined in 1955, with East Germany assimilating into the alliance upon the reunification of Germany in 1990.

Since 1997, NATO has expanded further east to include more countries such as:

Hungary
Czech Republic
Poland
Bulgaria
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Romania
Slovenia
Albania
Croatia
Montenegro in 2017 and North Macedonia in 2020.

Who do we attack if Greece and Turkey go to war?
Croatia and albania are real powerhouses.

Nato outlived its’ usefulness long ago.

—> NATO is growing.

Bureaucracies do that.

—> Germany is the fourth largest economy in the world.

Having poached off the southern EU countries, having been supported by American military investment, and having reneged on their NATO budgetary commitments for how long?.

Not surprising.

—>The bicycle industry is booming.

Bikes are fine unless mandated

Soccer is a game for homosexuals who lack the hand-eye coordination for badminton or pingpong...

You didn’t notice but NATO is only growing because of Putin, not because bureaucracies.
The fourth largest economy is way bigger than your little laundry list of peeves.
Bicycles are a problem according to Jon. Why don’t you ask him about that so we can see how intelligent he is?

“Good. Russian nukes to the border, which is something Neocons seem to think is a good thing.”

You do know, don’t you, that Russia ALREADY has nukes on NATO’s border? The Russian enclave of Kaliningrad has nukes. It directly borders NATO Poland and NATO Lithuania.
