You know you’re hitting the target when your opponent starts fighting back. In this case, the target is good education, namely charter schools, and the opponent is Biden’s Department of Education.
In the same week the New York Times was digging for any kind of dirt it could toss at Hillsdale College’s charter-school initiative, a new DOE rule went into effect. The rule, proposed in the unplumbed depths of the federal register a month prior on March 14, added some 14 pages of federal regulations on the traditionally local process of charter-school application, approval, and administration. Among other things, the rules would give school boards and “community leaders” a unilateral veto over new charter-school applications that don’t directly collaborate with the public schools.
Charter schools, which use a combination of public and private funding to provide parents and their children an alternative to public schooling without the additional costs of private or home education, have long been a thorn in the side of public schools and “educators.” This is in part due to the fact that children who attend charter schools have historically performed far better than their public school counterparts, prompting parents and voters to ask the obvious questions.
That difference in success is even more exaggerated at classical charter schools, particularly the 21 member schools of Hillsdale’s charter initiative, whose students begin by studying phonics in kindergarten and end having taken several years of Latin, classical literature, American history, moral philosophy, and Western civilization, among other subjects. So well-educated are the students, and so impressed are the parents, that Hillsdale claims to have over 8,000 students nationally on waiting lists to attend these schools, where admittance is typically determined through a lottery system. ***

The Left hates competition.
Any competition.

Nice to see them sticking it to the Xiden regime.
“You know you’re hitting the target when your opponent starts fighting back. In this case, the target is good education”
This makes no sense. Why am I hitting good education?
I’d consider my enemy ceasing to fight back as evidence I’m hitting the target.
The DOE is trying to hobble the charter schools by making them just like public schools.
All DOE can do is deny grant money. They have no Constitutional authority here. I’d say even the grant money has no Constitutional foundation. And I suppose the NGE accreditation folks will try to thwart these as well.
Please subscribe to Imprimis the monthly FREE publication from Hillsdale College. You won’t regret it.
Thanks.
PRETTY sure Hillsdale takes NO grant money-—and they also do not take students who have ‘student loans’.
This might swing so strongly to Hillsdale’s position that Biden Admin will end up VERY SORRY they poked that hornet nest.
We’ve been getting the Hillsdale Imprimis for the last 15 years. I learn something new every time I read them. Still can’t believe they’re free.
Thank God I live in AZ where charter schools are very ingrained. My super smart grandson goes to Legacy Traditional School, and he’ll be going to a charter high school where they are heavy on the classics in a couple of years.
The left hates due process, hates democracy, hates the light of truth.
Really great article. Thank God for Hillsdale and the few like them.
Hillsdale takes NO federal funds. Hillsdale also operates it’s own student loan program in addition to an extensive scholarship program.
Hillsdale should be in charge of education. Eliminate the Education Department.
All their graduates should quit their current jobs and join in.
Bkmk
Better idea: Hillsdale takes over the education department and closes itself down-2 years. Then it takes over another(bigger) department. Keep moving.
Ditto!
