Kathy Barnette, a Republican Senate candidate in Pennsylvania, has a social media history packed with anti-Muslim and anti-LGBTQ sentiments, as well as conspiracy theories about former President Obama.
(snip)
Driving the news: Former President Donald Trump warned Republicans Thursday that Barnette's history will preclude her from winning a general election in Pennsylvania. Trump has endorsed celebrity TV doctor Mehmet Oz in the race.
(snip)
In one of the tweets, Barnette said "pedophilia is a cornerstone of Islam."
(snip)
Worth noting: Barnette talked derogatorily about Muslims, Islam and Obama in speeches as well, CNN reports.

I don’t find the tweets offensive, but they are stupid for sure. I would hold my nose and vote for Oz is he has a significantly better chance of winning the general election.
“It doesn’t matter what you or Erik think
On this site, it does.”
No, it does not. Sorry to inform you of that.
What matters are the words and statements of Kathy Barnette.
Again, it’s not about me or about the media reporting on what she said or wrote.
Look, I get it. People can get super emotional about all of this.
I try to stay out of that game.
Facts are facts.
That’s why I’m really disappointed that Kathy took the pathetic Joy Reid “not me” path here.
You have to own your past, and then you can overcome it.
She’ll be ready, in time, but that time does not look to be today.
Yes, and “stupid” loses elections.
Look, we all know how this goes over time. Kathy apologizes for the tweets and statements, gets some “sensitivity training”, and all of that. Then, in 6 months or a year, she resurfaces and the stuff is “all in the past.”
But it’s not going away in this election cycle, and “not me” isn’t going to work.
I just want to keep the seat. Kathy seems like a good person. It’s not about her (personally), for me. It’s about winning the seat.
Your posts have no substance to argue on.
Kathy Barnette posted anti Obama stuff on twitter?
So what?
She should be given a medal for that.
This is not Axios.
On FR, we love those who post against Obama. You have a problem with anti Obama posts, you are on the wrong site.
Really disappointed with Mitch going to Ukraine. But not surprised.
As I’ve said many times now, I joined the site (after reading for years) because I was tired of the Ukraine war propaganda.
So, yeah, I was very unhappy with Mitch today.
“But I don’t live in Minnesota and I don’t care if Omar wins an election.” -— How can you be a conservative if you are OK with Omar in Congress?
Your entire argument is on “electability” which is a leftist concept.

I kindly disagree. Christine Oddonel is the perfect example. This seat is a must win.
Oh yes it does.
You need to read the responses AGAINST your post.
Hardly anyone is backing you. You are not still on Axios where they love Obama.
This is FR.
I don’t like Omar in Congress. But I’m not in a position to do anything about it at the moment.
As someone in PA, however, I am in a position to try to help keep Toomey’s senate seat red.
That’s the present concern.
Do not listen to the naysayers
Same stuff was said about Rand back in 2010
They said an outsider could not win etc, etc.~
In fact he had millions of ads against him as well
but in the end he prevailed rather easily.
Miracles can happen and I think it will happen next week.
Yes, Christine O’Donnell does resonate here, I think.
And yes, this seat HAS to be won to get an outright majority (or maybe even just keep 50/50) in the senate.
Glad to see someone is thinking logically here, not emotionally.
We have to win this seat.
PA is +500K Dem voter registration, as I linked to earlier in the thread.
It’s not about what we want the state to be, but what the state is.
Look, I’m in Pennsyltucky. I see things here I never would have seen 10 years ago. But they’re here.
Have to deal with things as they are. And we need to win the election.
Since you are so good at predictions, what is next week’s Lotto numbers?
Do you know who Mitch is backing in this race?
He was also against Rand in 2010 and he’s from the same state!
The Commonwealth of Kentucky.
In fact the more I think about this race the parallels are there....
Funny, funny.
Look, if Kathy wins the primary I’ll donate and work like heck to help her win in November.
I like her. Seems like a fighter.
I just want to win in November. For me, it’s not about any one person. I’m not attached to anyone. I wanted Parnell.
From what I can tell, Mitch hasn’t backed anyone. Surprised by that.
Of course, I think he’d love McCormick. That’s his kind of guy, in my opinion.
Every seat is crucial jeez tell us something we don’t know..
You keep repeating this mantra it doesn’t mean anything.
Whoever wins this primary will win the general election unless you think Biden’s policies are popular there?
The gas prices & inflation will be worse by November
The difference between Romney and another GOP person might be the difference between Mitch (or whoever is Majority Leader) dismissing or dismantling a potential impeachment against Trump in, say, 2025.
It might also be the difference in getting another SCOTUS judge.
Or other Trump future appointments.
The seat matters. We don’t need any more Romneys, that’s for sure. But I don’t see any Romneys here. Although McCormick could, I guess, turn out like that.
Making anti Obama, anti LGBT statements should earn her praise, not some weaselly attacks from some JCL on a conservative site like FR.
Again, it's not about me or about the media reporting on what she said or wrote.
It's all about you and your far left media pals at CNN/Axios. You are too left wing to even see the total ridiculousness of you attacking a Republican for being anti Obama. What planet are you living on?
