There is no avoiding the obvious. Sen. Rick Scott’s personal history — single mom, public housing, extraordinary success in business — the only legit billionaire in the crowd. His military record. Winning not once or twice but four times in a large, politically complicated state like Florida that was a swing state before he ran in 2008.
Business experience. Political experience as a governor in a large state, and appetite for policy. A personal history that speaks to the moment.
He will be a very difficult competitor should he decide to seek higher office in 2024.
Lots of folks in Washington are committed to titles. It turns out that Mr. Scott is no different. He values the important titles of “dad” and “granddad” over any others. That preference, of course, reflects the properly ordered nature of his life. Quote on family.
It also echoes the admonition of President Ronald Reagan that you can accomplish anything in D.C. as long as you don’t care who gets the credit. Titles in this town are all about who should get the credit. There is no ceiling to what can be accomplished if you can relinquish one’s attachment to titles.
Let’s take one quick example of what failure to plan leads to.

GOP would never pass it in a hundred years….Looks pretty 🤩 to me…
Everyone should have to pay taxes….even if it just a little
Rick Scott is a single mom?
He freaks me out due to his looks but I lived in FL at the time and he did a good job there.
Not bad. He was good for his time. Then DeSantis came in. Florida needed him at the right time.
This is what America needs. We’ve got to stop jumping from one crisis to crisis. In order to do that we need a plan. Our country can do great things. History has proved that. But it all must start with a plan.
Rick Scott bump.
Another Mitch Daniels? Best POTUS we never had? Those guys are out there but the voters have their say, thanks to the 16th(?) amendment. Throw in the income tax and you’ve got class divisions playing into the hands of the rats. How about tariffs + a consumption(Fair) tax? Eliminate the income tax-raise eyebrows big time. Everyone pays.
Mitch was George Will’s crush btw so I don’t know.
The author probably meant single man, but did not read his op-ed after he was finished.
The plan looks good to me. Hope he can implement it in some way.
