Trump backs Mastriano in Pa. GOP governor primary
The Washington Times ^ | May 14, 2022 | Marc Levy

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Donald Trump on Saturday endorsed Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary for governor, siding with a far-right candidate who was outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection and has worked with determination to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Mastriano was already leading a crowded field of contenders, and the former president’s endorsement puts him on even stronger footing heading into Tuesday’s primary.

But there are growing fears from party leaders that Mastriano, a state senator and retired U.S. Army colonel, is too extreme to win the general election in November and could drag down other Republicans competing in the pivotal state where a U.S. Senate seat is also up for grabs.

Mastriano has, for example, helped spread unsubstantiated claims from Trump and his allies that Democrats fraudulently stole the election for Joe Biden — something that Trump seized on in his endorsement statement.

“There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for Election Integrity than State Senator Doug Mastriano,” Trump wrote. “He has revealed the Deceit, Corruption, and outright Theft of the 2020 Presidential Election, and will do something about it.”

Trump called Mastriano “a fighter like few others, and has been with me right from the beginning, and now I have an obligation to be with him.”

Interesting considering Mastriano and Barnette are basically running together.

Here's hoping that Trump drops Dr. Odd like a hot rock after he loses on Tuesday. PA doesn't need its very own version of Mitt Romney.

I just drove through PA earlier this week. There is a substantial anti-Mastriano talk radio campaign going on.

for good reason. Shapiro will be a huge favorite if Mastriano wins. In which case, there will be no electoral reform in Pennsylvania.

Barletta will be a slight favorite if he wins.

Why in the world is the Washington times running an associated press wire story that says such lies as insurrection and far right?

The associated press is nothing more than the publicity wing of the Democratic Party

But there are growing fears from party leaders ...

There's that party leaders thing again. Hummm! Jake Coreman is a so-called republican party-leader in PA. Coreman has undermined Mastriano at every turn, using his PA Senate President pro tempore position to prevent Mastriano from pursuing 2016 voter fraud. Coreman went so far as to fire Mastriano's staff.

Coreman just recently dropped out of the governor's race. Why? Because unlike Mastriano and Barletta, Coreman the "party leader" has no support. So much for "PA republican party leaders".

Pennsylvania is going to be a disaster for Republicans in November.

Pennsylvania is going to be a disaster for Republicans in November.

This is what happens when "electability" takes hold and fewer and fewer constitutionalists run for office. Look at NJ and NY as examples of where my Commonwealth is heading.

That's a good point, but I'm not sure how it applies to Pennsylvania. I don't think there's been a "constitutionalist" in statewide office PA in my lifetime, so this isn't something new.

PA will be destroyed by the same thing that has destroyed NJ and NY: urbanization and the increasing mediocrity of suburbanites.

I will be voting for Lou Barletta for Governor of Pennsylvania. Has a nice ring to it. If Mastriano is the nominee then I will vote for him in the general election over the sniveling weasel Shaprio.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE will I be voting for OZ or McCormick in the general if they are the nominee. The days of voting for the democrat-lite candidate are over. RINO’s just end up muddying the waters. They get in office and immediately start voting with the Rats or worse they implement Rat policies. And when (as expected) it all goes to hell, the public blames Republicans. It’s better to let the democrat get elected and let THEM take the blame for the chaos.

NO MORE voting for RINO’s. NEVER EVER AGAIN! Don’t care if the democrats burn it all to the ground. Carl Rove and Cocaine Mitch can go to hell!

“Mastriano, a state senator and retired U.S. Army colonel, is too extreme to win the general election in November...”

Define “extreme”. And don’t let the Democrat Socialists define it for you.

Make the competition play by their own rules.

“Extreme” as in “Ultra MAGA Crowd”, as defined by Resident Joe Biden. The biggest threat to “our democracy” the country has ever seen.

for good reason. Shapiro will be a huge favorite if Mastriano wins. In which case, there will be no electoral reform in Pennsylvania.

Barletta will be a slight favorite if he wins.

Neither Mastriano nor Barletta have support from the PAGOP, they will sit on their hands and let both of them lose. Corman is a snake and while he dropped out to support Barletta, he would do nothing to actually support him in the fall if he wins the primary.

The difference between Barletta and Mastriano, especially if Barnette squeaks by and wins her primary, is that the republican ticket in PA is by default going to have to be fire and brimstone, America First, ultra MAGA. The state GOP doesn't want that to be the platform or the direction of the party.

The general election is going to be a tough row to hoe no matter what. Harrisburg is filled with rot and the state supreme xourt is happy to keep a thumb on the scales to favor dems, Philly is profoundly corrupt, the Philly ring counties, where statewide elections are won, are filled with scared wine moms and democrat ballotstaffers, and the national media is going to be playing the hell out of January 6th footage, where Mastriano, should he win the Primary, was a strong backer of the general demonstration there. Whoever wins has to cut through all that, overcome the establishment smears, and then change hearts and minds to find more votes beyond the margin of fraud. That's hard work. The state GOP doesn't want hard work. They want steady paychecks, lazy pro-forma attack ads, and patronage jobs after the election.

I agree with you define extreme. Shortie Shapiro is running away from Biden who has the worst numbers in 50 years. We could run Mr. Nobody in Pennsylvania and win. This state is so over Joe Biden. And in the next six months can you imagine how bad this country is going to be. And yet serious some guys who think that people are gonna flock to Shorty Shapiro. Where is Biden’s number 35%. Trump is up by 10 points against him. That’s for starters and Pennsylvania the of the energy producing state in the country. Do you know where diesel is going to be by November probably 100% higher then where it is right now. They never put the refinery back online that blew up in Philadelphia area. The environmentalists are running this state right now. If we can’t win against Biden Shapiro we can never win.

If elections were fair, then you would be correct. Unfortunately, the Dems were allowed to steal 2020, and this will be the blueprint for all future elections. I fully expect the "counting" to stop at an appointed time on election night so they can manufacture cheat-by-mail-in votes for the Dem and not allow Republican observers to oversee the "counting." And it doesn't matter if the "mail-in" ballot does not have a fold in it or has a different texture paper -- judges did not accept sworn affidavits of election workers who witnessed this and would not allow an audit.

Barletta was MAGA long before Mastriano was pushing no-excuse absentee voting.
