Those retreating troops are not regular Orc forces, but forced conscripts - men dragged off the street and taken to the front. The regulars are gone - location not yet known

A people’s right to self-determination is fundamental. You’re making noise to excuse the actions of a thug.

Remember the Cold War myth that Russian soldiers were indomitable 10-feet-tall super-warriors? Afghanistan and now Ukraine put the lie to that notion.

Without Western arms, food, and transport vehicles, the Soviet army was a paper tiger. The whole Cold War happened because the West mismanaged WWII from the start. Without espionage and stolen technology, the Soviets would have had neither the atomic bomb, nor the bombers to deliver one.

With Nuland,Kristol and Keane involved here, ISW is the closest thing to an official mouthpiece for Uke propaganda.
What they don’t mention is that the Rus withdrawal from Kharkov has duped the the Ukies into giving up their advantageous artillery spotter positions in tall buidings there. Rus lured the ukes to move artillery closer to the front lines so now they can’t shield them at hospitals, schools, and residential areas which limited Rus strike capability as they try to avoid civilian collateral damage. Now that Uke artillery has been lured out, the Rus can shell them more efficiently.

I don’t remember such a thing but I do remember the numbers facing us, incredibly massive numbers of men and weaponry.

And with the proper amount of readiness, strong leadership and a military second to none, we faced down the USSR into nonexistence by 1991.

“...lack of access to Western technology to pump harder-to-recover oil and enhance production from maturing wells will hit Russia’s oil industry not only in the near term but also in the long term, analysts say.”

In the long run this is probably the most self-destructive aspect of Putin’s great Ukranian adventure. The countries and businesses that could help Russia sustain a decent existance will be very cautious about reengaging in that country even if Putin should suddenly relent, retire, or disappear.

“...Rus withdrawal from Kharkov has duped the the Ukies into giving up their advantageous artillery spotter positions in tall buidings there.”

Why would Ukes give up advantageous artillery spotter positions? Why couldn’t they use telescopes to spot Russian concentrations that would now be further away and unable to shell the city as much? Since when has the Rus strike capability been trying to avoid civilian collateral damage? Most indications are that they LOVE civilian collateral damage as they have achieved so much of it.

You mean like the sneaky Russian plan to lose thousands of troops, including the front line paratroopers as well as hundreds of tanks, armed personnel carriers and the flag ship Moskva, all in a “feint”??

No, the Russians lost kharkiv and they are retreating haphazardly.

What is that adm Smith operative on this thread...

I don't think he is on this thread. He appears to primarily post UK stuff favoring Ukraine. The intel reports are taken from Ministry of Defence (UK) on twitter.

https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/1522815718999289856

On this matter, UK intel is worth about as much as the opinions of the heads of 17 US intel agencies.
