John Fetterman is redefining how swing-state Democrats campaign

(snip)

His dominance may seem surprising. But behind it is his success in addressing two pressing problems Democrats have struggled with nationally. That their primary voters tend to favor progressive policies more than general election voters, and their party seems unable to clearly define what it believes and who it’s for: It wants to advance progressive ideas without being branded as leftist, and to strike a balance between elite priorities and blue-collar concerns.

The quirks of his candidacy mean that Fetterman is able to find a balance between extremes. A longtime politician, he’s promoted progressive causes in the state while also bending to practical, populist concerns. And he’s done much of that while wearing Carhartt hoodies and basketball shorts.

(snip)

He’s not as left-leaning as his closest ideological rival, Malcolm Kenyatta, the Black, gay state representative from North Philadelphia, or an avowed centrist, like Lamb, the DC-born, retired Marine. But the blue-collar progressivism Fetterman represents strings together different elements: old-school centrist concerns for working-class people — often focused on the white working class — and the activist-minded priorities of a younger, more diverse electorate.

Agree!
And the Pa GOP compound the lack of electoral attractiveness by incompetence.

As an independent PA Trumper, not able to vote in this primary, I’ll say this; if Republican candidates, at any level, can’t win in this current Biden atmosphere, I suggest they fold up their GOP tent and reopen under a new name, with new ideas.

The Senate isn’t what it used to be.

She would need $10 million stat in her campaign account if she wins the nomination. The Leftists are organized on social media - if one of their “underdog heroes” wins, they get that cash practically overnight from small donations. Our candidates do not - the right is not organized like this...and it is a huge shame.

Thank you for your input. From outside PA Fetterman seems like the media’s Obama (circa 2004) this year. I’m cheering for Barnette.

I read somewhere he is a trust fund baby. Can anyone verify?

If so, if i was a political advisor to Bartlett that’s the angle I would play. Get her to say ‘”Well you may talk the talk of blue collar Pa, even fake the walk. But I lived the life so I have done walk and can talk the talk with authority!”

Anyway I still think all of this is a good example as to why the 17th Amendment should be repealed!

I dont know about that. I know he is a former wrestler (no surprise) and a town favorite because he loves pot. Once held a black guy at shotgun point because the black guy was running away from something. No charges were filed.

This is going to be interesting if it ends being Barletta. Fetterman appeals to white hard core blue collar probably unemployed in Pennsyltucky (Pennsylvania between the ‘Burg & Philly). In some ways this is Trump’s constituency. Except this group is susceptible to Bernie-ism which is Fetterman’s forte. She brings her own blue-collar hard scrabble message which will have appeal. Will this group overlook her being female and black? Some will and some won’t! Can she make up for the loss by drawing in black vote? I don’t know. I’ll say this I can’t remember a single black conservative candidate drawing a significant percentage of the black vote. Santa Claus always beats someone saying grow up, act right and get a job! If she wins, I hope she can!

Oz & McCormick can’t draw in any of the Pennsyltucky vote compared to Fetterman.
