Putin said already in 2007 that the fall of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century. He said he wants his Evil Empire back and he is going to take it back.
This has gone on through presidents Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden.

I blame Angela Merkel. Russia invaded after the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline was completed last year. Then he started to cut gas from the regular pipeline to ensure that the German reservoirs would be empty.

Now, Germany has got to divert the gas filling the storage bunkers to other ruble-refuseniks.
