George P. Bush’s family name proves to be key obstacle in his race against Ken Paxton for attorney general (sauce for the goose!)

As George P. Bush was ramping up his runoff campaign in the Republican attorney general’s race in March, he jumped on a Fox Business Network interview to advocate for stricter border security, pledging to build “miles and miles” of border wall to combat the federal government’s “inactivity.”

Stuart Varney, the host conducting the interview, was skeptical.

“Sir, I always think of the Bush family as kind of the moderate wing of the Republican Party,” he said. “And now you want to finish Trump’s wall. Is that accurate?”

The interaction is emblematic of a key obstacle for Bush in his race against two-term incumbent Ken Paxton: his family name.

To win the Republican runoff — an election decided by the party faithful — Bush has to convince GOP voters that his conservative bona fides are unimpeachable. In recent years, he’s embraced the rhetoric of the more Trumpian faction of the party. He wants to build the border wall. He supports the state’s latest efforts to investigate the parents of transgender children for child abuse. He has said he wants his generation to be the one that ends abortion. He opposes same-sex marriage.

Get your positions BECAUSE of your name, you may be defeated BECAUSE of your name.

The Bush name isn't trusted anymore.

I’ll say what I’ve been saying for the past 10 years - no more Bushes, no more Clintons . . . ever. The next generation needs to get real jobs, not sleaze their way into an elected office meal ticket.

Oh, poor George P. Bush. He might have to spend his life earning a living on the board of some oil company or running a major league ball club, instead of by lounging around on the public dime. He’s so put-upon.

Ken Paxton has been going On Point and getting the job done.

That's why he should be reelected.

I remember in the early primary race that Bush tried to position himself as a conservative. He ran a ton of commercials with the slogan “finish Trump’s wall”. It is possible he is what he claims to be. But I don’t believe it. Paxton all the way for me.

The Bushes are even more of a crime family than the Kennedys or the Clintons. The founders, Prescott Bush and Bert Walker, made their first big money from Aryanized Jewish property and money-laundering for the Nazis before and during WWII

Is there any credence to the rumor that there are skeletons in the Paxton’s closet that could lead to indictments (at the worst) or 24-7 negative media coverage (at the best)?

I have heard that the Dims are waiting on the sidelines until Paxton wins, for the proper time to drop the bombs. Normal dim playbook stuff, but I’d be interested in what Texas Freeper’s might have heard.

“rumor that there are skeletons in the Paxton’s closet”

There aren’t just rumors. He has been dogged by legal issues for a long time. Most of it is BS, progressive abuse, but it has created a corrupt perception that has some negative impact.

I don’t know… you’re the one advancing the rumor.

House,
I’m not advancing the rumor, it was a legitimate question asked of knowledgeable Freepers. See the useful post of Wayne07 above.

Wayne, thank you for the useful post. Being indicted in Texas by a politically motivated prosecutor isn’t all that hard. I remember the dim prosecutor called several different grand juries until he finally found one that was dull enough to finally indict Tom Delay. His case was eventually thrown out and he was acquitted . . . but only after the dims had damaged him enough to get him out of the House. Job done.

Thanks to both of you for the responses
