...Mr. Manchin, No.
U.S. Senate BLOCKS Abortion Rights Bill, 49-51.
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
I believe that’s only in the case of a filibuster. The Republicans seemed to know that it was doomed for failure because they just let it go on for a vote. Either that or they didn’t care.
“I’m just happy to take whatever victories we can get.”
I sure wish more people would think like you do...
Has anyone who has read this bill found the Constitutional justification for Congress writing any bills regarding abortion? I have asked several times and thus far received no answers. Or is more of a “We can because we want to.” kind of thing.
Ghouls will never stop killing.
A cloture vote would be required, but, there was talk of changing the filibuster rule, so that they would only need a simple majority. And the vote to change the filibuster rule would only need a simple majority, not 60 votes.
And in a 50-50 Senate, it would only need 50, with Kamala certain to be the tie breaking vote.
👍
“im more shocked the RINOS, never trumpers and actual Republicans banded together on this one.”
Me too, I’m thinking that bill was far more than codifying Roe vs. Wade, but (knowing the Democrats) probably allowed ‘infanticide’ until age 5 or something.
For the Democrats it’s all about power, and anything that diminishes their power, or even creates the perception, is good for America.
because it didn’t matter, so the RINO’s took the opportunity to pretend to be conservative.
It would of just been filibustered, so this was nothing more than both sides strutting to their base for midterms.
This particular vote required 60 votes so no Kamala vote would have applied to break any ties.
That is correct.
I don't see why everyone is celebrating. If this bill only lost by one vote today, it seems like eventually it will pass. That means there the nation will have even more extreme laws than under Roe.
Planned Parenthood is probably planning to move into all 50 states as we speak.
That is true, but there was talk they might introduce a resolution to change the 60 vote threshold on filibusters. And such a vote would only require a simple majority, if we had gotten to that point.
Oh… well…, I’m sure that the baby killers will eagerly accept the results of, ahem, “democracy” as expressed in the Senate vote. They believe in it so strongly…
Not.😏
Correct, but this was in fact the cloture vote.
GOOD!!!!
“But but but 75% of the public supports abortion!!!”
No, this was a vote to permit the vote on codifing abortion.
Cloture vote is to break the filibuster - that’s what this vote was.
It is extra nice to see they didn’t even have the votes to pass it if there was no filibuster.
