Judge Layne Smith announces he’ll block DeSantis’ redistricting plan

A congressional map approved by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and drawn by his staff is unconstitutional because it breaks up a district where Black voters can choose their representatives, a state judge said Wednesday. Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith said he would issue a formal order Thursday or Friday to keep the maps from taking effect in November’s election.

There is no problem with the district. It goes from from something like 26% to 23% black. Hopefully this gets shut down quickly.

The district that is a “problem” is in the Panhandle which ordinarily glows deep red but this year it will glow so red that satellites will be able to make it out. Let them tinker with the boundary lines and think they have a big victory.

The only problem with the district is that it is long and narrow, spanning from Tallahassee to Jacksonville. Districts should be compact so that the people being represented share common issues.

It's hard to imagine that the people of Tallahassee (western panhandle, state government workers) have the same issues as the people of Jacksonville (Atlantic coastal, seaport, densest Florida city).

Moonbat leftist local judge with ZERO standing. Sadly, most state capitals are located in moonbat counties (FL being one with Tallahassee’s Leon County) and they are infested with local ultraleftist judges that think they are empowered to stop or overrule Conservative Governors and legislatures. Judges like these need to not only be reigned in, but swiftly impeached for what is effectively treasonous and subversive actions.

The assumption is that black people are being deprived of rights unless they can vote for a black candidate who is a shoo-in to win. Since no district is 100% people of one race, that means the voters in that district who are not black have no right to a representative who might be attentive to their needs (since he will only care about “his people”). At least that seems to be the reasoning.
