Rush Limbaugh Flashback: 'Abortion Is at the Root of So Much That Has and Is Going Wrong in This Country'

Nine years ago, on June 14, 2013, the late Rush Limbaugh explained why the legalization of abortion "has caused all kinds of horrible problems that nobody knows how to fix."

"I just want to tell you something," Limbaugh told his listeners:

"I really think that abortion is at the root — you could do a flowchart — I think abortion is at the root of so much that has and is going wrong in this country. I think that the number of abortions themselves, but what in toto it all means, culturally, in terms of the sanctity of life, how that’s crumbled, I think it’s almost at the root of everything.

"And if it’s not at the root of everything, it’s clearly had a profound impact on our culture, our society, and our politics, I think in ways that people don’t even stop to consider. None of it good and it’s caused all kinds of horrible problems that nobody knows how to fix. Because they refuse to even accept that abortion is more than what it is.

"To most people, it’s just a woman’s right to choose, and it’s nobody’s business, and leave it alone, and I don’t want to talk about it. But it’s really had much more impact on this country than just that. It’s had impact on crime. It’s had a profound impact on our politics. It is at the root of our cultural rot and decay.

I have been reading Durant’s “The Story of Philosophy” and - I already knew some of this stuff, but it refreshed my memory - note that in a lot of ancient civilizations, rates of infanticide rose as the standard of living got better.

Infanticide or infant exposure (I do include abortion in infanticide, but in less-affluent settings a lot of the time they just wait for the kid to be born and then kill it) is still practiced worldwide. I read an article not too long ago about a Chinese woman - living in a poor village - who started saving infants that were being delivered in an abortionist’s office and then thrown in a dumpster. She saved like almost 50 infants who were still alive and in decent shape when being dumped.

In China they also have places where poor women leave their infants where they are set in high chairs and not given food or water until they starve to death - infanticide by exposure, which was practiced a great deal in the ancient world, even in Rome and Greece. Plato seemed to recommend it as part of his Utopia.

Almost everyone is familiar with the stories of what happened to lots of kids and adults in the Mayan, Inca, and Aztec civilizations. It was a bloodbath. I always say thank Nob they never got around to creating atomic fusion.

I don’t disagree with Rush, by the way. Abortion/infanticide are always a sign of decay and decline. But it’s nothing new. People thousands of years ago wrestled with the issue.

Things are bound to get worse before they get better. I’m fairly certain there will come a time when humanity looks back at this in horror that such a thing could have gone on for so long, and where it will be completely unthinkable. That time might be a very long time from now, however.

He was a tremendous loss for our side. 😢Those two characters on his radio slot don’t do anything for me. I hardly ever listen to them.

I miss Rush too. I’ve never listened to his replacement here: The Eric Erickson Show. Ugh. I see The Joe Rogan Show is ramping up. There’s a golden opportunity for other conservatives to pick up Rush’s mantle, at least in local markets.

"abortion rights" is the piggyback that the democrat party uses to program and radicalize a base. I know quite a few of the 'educated suburban women' category who were moderate or even conservative at one time, but because they are pro-abortion and they sit and get preached at by people like those on The View, they have adopted almost the whole DNC platform. They do so because they fear that not supporting them will somehow cause "abortion rights" to be threatened.

The same thing but inversely acting happened with T.D.S. Anything Trump supported, they automatically opposed. You saw that even on things that democrats had once supported.

A lot of people don't think for themselves. They just take orders. This is true on both sides, but I think it's much worse with democrats.

The democrats wouldn’t be nearly as popular as they are without Abortion. And democrats in power has brought issues that we wouldn’t have. Socialism, Transgenderism, bathroom confusion, economic mismanagement, increased corruption, etc.

You sit down and play with the devil, you’re going to get ruined. The Democrats are now the party of mass murder of precious children waiting to be born, and even afterwards. Here in California there’s a bill moving through committee to decriminalize infanticide.

A gradual descent into madness and damnation. If Roe is actually overturned, the demons will be screeching this summer. Be prepared.

Abortion is a big part of the problem, but it’s not the root. The desire for abortion springs from the desire for unfettered sexual indulgence, and that springs from worldliness and lack of belief in God. So abortion is at least 2 steps removed from the real root problem.

Rush was always a great pro-lifer. I wish he had lived see Roe overturned (assuming that’s really happening). It’ll be bittersweet without him.

“But it’s nothing new. People thousands of years ago wrestled with the issue.”

It’s the eternal desire to have freedom and ignore the consequences. But sooner than later consequences will get their revenge, and when that happens it ain’t pretty.

The “Gods of the Copybook Headings” by Kipling is a great reminder of this. One of most favorite poem.

I’ve tried too but NO ONE on Earth can fill Rush’s shoes. I kinda get sick listening to Rush’s intro song wishing he were coming on, wishing this were a dream but it’s not....so instead I just hang out here or play games on my puter to fill what used to be the happiest 3 hours of my day for so many years.......RIP Rush

= = =

I haven’t listened to them yet.

From a guy (oops, gendered myself) who instinctively hit the radio at 9:07 (Pacific) and knew the timing of hard commercials, etc.
