A film debuting in over 270 theaters across the United States this week uses a flawed analysis of cellphone location data and ballot drop box surveillance footage to cast doubt on the results of the 2020 presidential election nearly 18 months after it ended.
Praised by former President Donald Trump as exposing “great election fraud,” the movie, called “2000 Mules,” paints an ominous picture suggesting Democrat-aligned ballot “mules” were supposedly paid to illegally collect and drop off ballots in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
But that’s based on faulty assumptions, anonymous accounts and improper analysis of cellphone location data, which is not precise enough to confirm that somebody deposited a ballot into a drop box, according to experts.
The movie was produced by conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza and uses research from the Texas-based nonprofit True the Vote, which has spent months lobbying states to use its findings to change voting laws. Neither responded to a request for comment.
Here’s a closer look at the facts.
CLAIM: At least 2,000 “mules” were paid to illegally collect ballots and deliver them to drop boxes in key swing states ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
THE FACTS: True the Vote didn’t prove this. The finding is based on false assumptions about the precision of cellphone tracking data and the reasons that someone might drop off multiple ballots, according to experts.
“Ballot harvesting” is a pejorative term for dropping off completed ballots for people besides yourself. The practice is legal in several states but largely illegal in the states True the Vote focused on, with some exceptions for family, household members and people with disabilities.

2000 Mules and Refutations of The Left (VANITY)
We discuss how the Left is singing in unison on refuting this with the same weak "fact checks".
It's a Winning Strategy - just pretend that you "debunked" something, slap a "fact check" on it, and motor on like nothing happened.
Until the mail ballot mules start disappearing in the middle of the night on their rounds.
Then shriek and demand that Garland and the Department of Jesters DO SOMETHING!!!
What’s the difference between a ‘pejorative’ term and an ‘accurate’ one?
Who you gonna believe - the ApePee, or your lying eyes?
What you saw is not true. The facts are not facts. That video of people stuffing multiple ballots in boxes is not what it looks like. That person had 284 relatives who were nursing confined, all registered to vote at 25 different locations throughout the city.
That geo-tracking is not accurate. It is only good to about 50 feet. That person had legitimate business at 25 locations all over the city. It was just a coincidence that each and every bit of personal business was withing 50 feet of a drop box. They were taking selfies when they voted.
It is just all made up. None of it is true. They are lying. Nothing wrong was done.
LOL, that’s easy.
A “pejorative term” is a Leftist characterization whenever an “accurate term” is used to refer to a leftist process they don’t want you to know about, understand, or even talk about.
This opinion piece is listed under “news.”
The fox is guarding the henhouse.
“Fact checking” my foot.
Ass Press is incapable of fact checking anything, least of all a conservative movie proving massive ballot fraud in 2020.
It’s taken a while for them to figure out how to circle their wagons.
This is regurgitating the initial Mercury News hit from a few days ago.
I’m sure AP’s “fact-checkers” would be happy to sit down with Catherine Engelbrecht on some nationally-televised show and present their supposed case in a setting in which it could be challenged.
For example, even if the geotracking of the cell phone data can’t place an individual within a foot of a drop box, why are the individuals in question visiting a half-dozen different locations where drop boxes are located in a given loop on a given day?
And if the mules are wearing gloves because it’s cold outside and they’re scared of COVID, why did they only start wearing them after an Arizona mule got busted because of fingerprints on a ballot, how come they were wearing surgical gloves instead of mittens, and why did they throw them away once they posted the ballots they were toting?
What’s the theory on why the mules used the drop boxes in the first place? Couldn’t they have just mailed the ballots in?
I think all the ballots they dropped of were in bulk at isolated drop zones. So regular mail boxes wouldn’t have been any good and bringing bulk ballots to manned post offices would have been suspicious.
Did they fact check catching the shooters of the girl who was shot in Atlanta using the phone ping location?
They would drop 4-7 at a time in routes of 10-30 boxes so it would not trip any wires. It is a systemic method of voter fraud spreading it around so nobody can detect large quantities.
They even wore gloves so they would not leave prints on the ballots.
2000 Mules bump for later.....
But why not just mail them? Once they get into the postal system the quantities they’re talking about would be insignificant.
