Demonstrators in Poland's capital on Monday attacked Russia's ambassador with red paint and prevented him from laying flowers at a cemetery for Soviet soldiers to commemorate the victory over Nazi Germany.
When the delegation led by Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreev appeared at Warsaw's Mausoleum Cemetery, hundreds of protesters opposed to Russia's war in Ukraine greeted them with shouts of "murderers" and "fascists." While Andreev was stuck in the crowd, two bags of red paint hit him in the head, first from behind, then directly in the face.
The demonstrators then prevented him from laying flowers and a memorial wreath for the Russian Embassy cameras. Andreyev and his delegation quickly returned to the car.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denounced the attack, saying on her messaging app channel that "we won't be scared" while the "people of Europe should be scared to see their reflection in a mirror."
But Poland's current interior minister noted that Poland's government had advised the Russian ambassador against laying flowers at the cemetery.
"The gathering of opponents of Russian aggression against Ukraine, where the crime of genocide takes place every day, was legal," Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski added. "The emotions of Ukrainian women taking part in the demonstration, whose husbands are fighting bravely in defense of their homeland, are understandable."
Russia on Monday celebrated Victory Day over Nazi Germany. The Mausoleum Cemetery in Warsaw was established a few years after the end of World War II and has the character of a large park. Buried there are the remains of more than 20,000 soldiers who died in 1944 and 1945.
Poland has taken in more than 3.2 million refugees from its eastern neighbor since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.

If he wants to commemorate Soviet soldiers, do it in Russia. Not in a country they invaded along with the Nazis.
Good. The Russians were responsible for the murders of thousands of Poles.
L
Better RED than DEAD.
(sorry. Couldn’t resist.)
I don’t have a problem with this issue, after watching the video I’m surprised they allowed someone to get that close to the Ambassador, next time it may not be paint that gets thrown on someone, it might be knife or gun.
Remember WW I kicked off after a Crown Prince was gunned down.
>Good. The Russians were responsible for the murders of thousands of Poles.
OH REALLY?!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacres_of_Poles_in_Volhynia_and_Eastern_Galicia
The Ukrainian attacks on Poles during the massacres in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia were marked with extreme sadism and brutality. Rape, torture and mutilation were commonplace. Poles were burned alive, flayed, impaled, crucified, disembowelled, dismembered and beheaded. Women were gang raped and had their breasts sliced off, children were hacked to pieces with axes, babies were impaled on bayonets and pitchforks or bashed against trees.
Yes, there were massacres by Ukrainians. But for the most part Poles and Ukrainians have let bygones be bygones. Something the Russians have yet to do.
In response Andreeve should have said, “This one’s on me.”
I’m sorry but this kind of behavior is unexpectable. An ambassador has protection from the host country. They (idiots lefts) are breaking down all the established protocols of the last 500 years. And they never consider the consequence of their actions.
How about maybe not using the CIA to overthrow the governments of Georgia and Ukraine and we won’t have these problems in the future
OH REALLY!
Not to mention the millions of Poles sent to Siberian gulags during the war, never to return.
I get your drift, and don’t disagree, but it is entirely
possible a misguided person on the Right could have
done this, knowing the history in the area.
Understandable, just not a good idea.
He may have been a real d—k during the visit, so I can
understand the act.
Next year, Mariupol ... only the red will not be paint ...
When the Nazis and Soviets signed the Non-Aggression Pact, it took everyone by surprise, why didn’t Stalin align with Britain and France, as they had been courting him for months.
One reason, and one reason only, Stalin wanted his part of Poland in exchange to allying with Britain and France, and they told him, “Nyet!”. So he buddies up to Hitler, since he’d let him have his half of Poland.
“ OH REALLY?!”
Yes, Scooter. Really really.
Katyn Forest you historically illiterate boob.
If and when the Ukrainian ambassador gets red paint tossed on him I’ll applaud that, too.
Now go hump someone else’s leg.
L
Let him lay a wreath at the cemetary. Then immediately give him a wreath of red flowers with the banner KATYN across it.
This is what Soviet “soldiers” did in Poland after the war...
