This is something that really happened to me:
For a short time, I tried being involved in my “homeowners’ association” - not covenant, just an informal group - in Denver while I still lived there.
There was a shooting at this bodega owned and operated by M3xican nationals in the hood. Two Denver cops were shot and one died. The case was featured on “America’s Most Wanted” because - for some reason - the felon managed to escape into M3xico, his country of origin, where he remained until Colorado decided to reduce his eventual sentence so there would be no chance of him being executed. The local residents including hispanics complained, complained, and F***ING COMPLAINED about that place and the local cops - whose precinct station was only a couple of blocks away - pretended that nothing was going on. Did I mention that the shooting was during a private party for some privileged members of the hood, a “quince cumpleanos” party for KIDS? The Denver cops who were shot were doing off-duty security. (Note: Look up “salon ocampo shooting Denver” for more information. One Denver cop lost his life.)
You could have a “family-owned transgender pronography company” operating in your neighborhood, and even if you were fairly sure of it, you would be encouraged to go into mental health treatment and that would be it for whatever you accomplished. (The next time you complained, they would say, “Are you in mental health right now Mr Harmless Teddy Bear?” and refuse to reply to you except to verify your status as a nut case.)
Even if it was right in front of your face. Even if they KIDNAPPED YOUR DOG (which some of the creepy illegal aliens did to one of the HOA members) to get you to stop complaining.
One of my really nice neighbs there in Denver went to the HOA meeting with me because the Salon Ocampo owners came to the meeting too. They did threaten me to my face as I was walking out of the meeting and said “Stop interfering with our business.”
