The President of Russia spoke with the Prime Minister of Israel and apologized to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding the memory of the Holocaust: "Relations between Russia and Israel, based on the principles of friendship and mutual respect, will continue to develop for the benefit of our people
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and during the conversation, Putin apologized to Bennett for Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov's remarks on Holocaust remembrance. "The Prime Minister accepted President Putin's apology for Lavrov's remarks and thanked him for clarifying the President's attitude toward the Jewish people and the memory of the Holocaust," the Prime Minister's Office said.
In the conversation, the prime minister made a humanitarian request to Putin to examine various options for evacuating Mazubestel in Mariupol. The request came following his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zlansky yesterday. Putin has promised to allow the evacuation of civilians, including wounded civilians, through a UN humanitarian corridor and the Red Cross.
Earlier, Putin sent President Yitzhak Herzog a letter of congratulations on Israeli Independence Day. In the letter, Putin sent a conciliatory message stating that relations between Russia and Israel are unlikely to go awry following the Russian foreign minister's remarks about Hitler's alleged Jewish origins.
"I extend my sincere wishes for the Independence Day of the State of Israel. I believe that relations between Russia and Israel, based on the principles of friendship and mutual respect, will continue to develop for the benefit of our people and for the strengthening of peace and security in the Middle East. To all Israeli citizens, "Putin wrote in a letter.
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, also sent a videotaped greeting to the President of the State, stating that the partnership with Israel is essential to the United States.
"It is an honor for me to send the best wishes of the citizens of the United States for the 74th birthday of the State of Israel. In 74 years of progress and partnership, we have achieved a great deal together. From collaborations in groundbreaking scientific and technological research to the creation of new regional ties that will ensure Israel's security. "The partnership between Israel and the United States was essential for the United States and I believe for Israel as well. The ties between us are strong. And I am proud to stand by Israel today and always. Happy Independence Day," he said.
Did he offer Israel 7 years of peace?
Good question.
Just to clarify, they didn’t meet in person, but they spoke. (Lost in translation).
Putin decided to ignore his previous demands that Israel give up the Golan Heights or face Russian action.
At least for now.
