The US has tested a new 'quicksink' bomb designed to destroy enemy warships from the sky.
The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and Eglin Air Force Base's Integrated Test Team demonstrated what an attack on a warship in combat with the US could look like on April 28.
The US Air Force tested the munitions against a cargo ship in the Gulf of Mexico, breaking it in half and sinking it.
An F-15E Strike Eagle fighter launched the modified bomb, successfully striking the target by detonating a GPS-navigated bomb underneath the vessel.
The new technology provides the US Air Force with torpedo-like kill capabilities on US Air Force platforms.

Any guesses on how long it takes for the government’s “diversity” fixation to land this technology right in the laps of the ChiComs?
No survivors, like the Dread Pirate Roberts...
The ChiComs don’t need espionage any more.
The “thousand talents” program got their best and brightest educated at top US technical schools for the last 15 yrs.
Probably being developed to counter China, at least on paper a larger naval force than Russia. Maybe Taiwan could order some of these.
Theyve reinvented the torpedo bomber. I wonder how much that cost us.
Yep... Impressive...
Why, the armour protection on those cargo ships must be 12-15 inches thick...
Quicksand? Like the Biden presidency?
Please. I’ve seen the video. It’s a smaller size merchant ship. It’s empty. And it was a missile strike directly from above. Totally underwhelming. Nothing that a single mark 48 torpedo couldn’t do to a ship of that size.
I’m not sure why we are supposed to be impressed with this?

One of the most boneheaded moves the US has done was to bring ChiCom “students” to the US and put them through school. Madness.
That would sure play hell with a Chinese assault on Taiwan.
>> 2,000-pound air-launched ‘quicksink’ bomb
1 ton bomb sounds so much better...
Or wonton bomb... lol
Why do we keeo polluting the ocean while we reinvent the wheel? A waste of our tax dollars too.
I don’t think the armor matters, here. It might even be detrimental. The warhead detonation under the ship uses the incompressibility of water to lift the center of the ship up, while the weight & inertia of the ends breaks it in the middle. Then there’s a big secondary explosion — water hitting the boilers, I guess?
Mk 48 torpedo: ~$4 million (latest version).
2000 lb JDAM w/INS/GPS: <$25K; much more if a seeker is included.
I’d put my money on the JDAM, the Quicksink mod is probably a software & fuse upgrade. I would bet that the F-35 could carry 2 internally, but that may not be the best use for the aircraft.
Thx for the info...
Almost experienced a similar thing back in the 1980s when I hit a manatee on the St Johns River while fishing in a bass tournament,,,
over concern about things beyond your ken is counterproductive
miserliness leads to defeat
