Discovered by a doctor in Virginia university over 15 years ago.
About 15 years ago, I started waking up at 2am with the hives. We hadn’t changed laundry detergent or anything like that so after a while, I decided it had to be food based. Did some searching online and found there is only one delayed food allergy and it was a recent discovery. Most occur within a few minutes but Alpha-Gal mammalian meat allergy takes 4-8 hours. Once I found that, we quickly narrowed it down to ribeye nights which we used to do every two weeks or so. It was $5.99/lb back then.
Also narrowed it down to having cleaned up the mo-in-law’s 5 acres rural property. Spent a week up there and got a ton of tick bites.
It’s normally pretty mild for me. Wake up at 1-2am with the hives, take a Benadryl, scratch for a couple of hours and go back to bed. I’m wiped out the next day though. It had almost gone away for a while on more than one occasion but all it takes is another Lone Star tick bite and it comes back. There have been a couple of episodes where I felt bad and one episode that would probably be considered anaphylactic shock from ham made from a heritage breed of pig. Got an epipen after that.
Ribeye, hamburger, ribs, corned beef and corned beef hash and that one heritage breed ham have been known to set me off. Last time it came on fast so I sat here with my epipen at the ready. That means tiny servings of certain things for months, if I eat them at all. Then if I don’t get a tick bite for those months, I’m back to average size servings but no ribeyes or heritage ham. Can’t afford the ribeyes anyway.
Save-A-Lot has T-bones on sale right now but I can’t do it. Sucks. At $4.99, it’s likely not USA beef anyway. Chile or something. Chicken does get old after a while. Light pork(the other white meat) doesn’t bother me, just the fatty yummy stuff like ribs. I buy lean beef roasts which also happen to be cheap and I cook them in the Instant Pot so we can chew it. I do ok with that. I’m also raising meat goats which is very lean meat.
Around the same time they discovered it here, a couple of Australian docs discovered it over there. Have no idea if it’s always been around or is something new. Natural or man-made/caused? Dunno.
How is that legal?
What are the CDC’s powers?
Granted, incoming calls/DMs are blocked, but it still can be pulled out for emergencies, one of the main reasons I carry a phone on the road.
BTW, when the cell phone is in the bag it can't access GPS signals, so it can't internally store its position. It also loses all housekeeping comms between it and the telco/ISP.
It works for me and my lifestyle. I understand it may not be for everyone. You can bet the "Mules" will be using them come this fall.
Yes, but in the current state of AI those decisions are often made rather poorly.
I have a new flip-phone that has the option of connecting to the WWW. I told the gal at US Cellular that I did NOT want that.
After TWO phone calls, I finally got it cancelled and got a refund. It was $80/a month! Insanity.
My ‘thriftiness’ saved me from more Government Intrusion in my life. Winning! :)
Blame congress. Anyone can buy this data if they can afford it. Companies paying people to require location data in their app’s permissions is what should be blocked. In reality, real time driving directions is the only legitimate use for location data. That and 911 calls. I won’t install an app that asks for it and I keep location data turned off, for that it’s worth. I really want to get a degoogled phone or Linux based phone for complete control.
So who planted those ‘bombs’ in the Capitol on January 5?
Wow,that stinks to,have that allergy. Sounds like you can eat some types of meat though so that helps a bit I imagine. Have you tried local raised meat that you are allergic to? Maybe somehtingmin domestic raised beef causes the issues? Some antibiotics they use or something?
I read that there is supposed to be another Lyme disease vaccine that the north east somewhere is gonna try. I thjnk they tried it before but failed. Would be nice is they do,get a vaccine agaisnt Lyme and even the several other nasty viruses that ticks transmit, as they cause lots and lots of issues in people. Healthy people become disabled by Lyme and other viruses sometimes. I’ve seen it knock strong healthy people, off their feet figuratively so that thye have to go for disability because they get so weak. Terrible creatures/viruses
The bag is certainly better than nothing. Do you know if it is camera-proof?
I agree that road travel emergency use is a tough nut. Cell tower coverage has made it so that that there is no equivalent. But, there was a day, not beyond my memory, when we had none of this, and we traveled, anyway.
You do make me wonder what well-written software could make out of time and audio recording combined with location in and out of the bag. I can also see software effort going into “tricking” you into forgoing the bag.
Fun times.
Where did they get the authority?
“Brave New World” vibes right there.
Which is why I’ll never take the tests.
If I had not taken the test I would probably be dead. I thought I had an ulcer. LOL
I am not for testing just because.
I’ll have to grab a steak from the local farm that sells to the public. I think it’s grass finished which may make a difference. Testing things has some risk though.
Be even more frugal & prudent.
NO CELL PHONE AT ALL.
Be even more frugal & prudent.
NO CELL PHONE AT ALL.
NO vehicles with On Star or similar-—1976 & 1979 vehicles.
Glad you made it. I just never wanted to be in the data base.
Maybe we need burner phones like terrorists.
We do value the Constitution which is domestic terrorism of course...
