Biden Mulls Income Limits for Student Debt Forgiveness: A plan that would forgive $10,000 in debt for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year.

Joe Biden is desperately casting about for a way to cancel student loan debt in order to boost his standing with younger voters and stave off a Democratic disaster at the polls. The current scuttlebutt is a plan that would forgive $10,000 in debt for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year.

But Biden’s radical allies won’t be satisfied with only partial forgiveness of the debt. They have been insisting that Biden has the power to cancel all $1.6 trillion worth of college debt currently on the books. About five million borrowers owing $110 billion are in default, up from 2.1 million owing $31 billion in 2013.

Democrats have made tweaks to the system that have made problems exponentially worse. And by far the most spectacularly stupid move was Joe Biden’s act of “suspending” student loan payments and interest during the pandemic and continuing to suspend the payments long after the entire nation had gone back to work. This will make it politically impossible to resume student loan repayments in the future.

Colluding with the Democrats on student loan forgiveness is Big Academia, which has jacked up the cost of going to college far beyond the rate of inflation in order to take advantage of the ever-expanding federal loan programs that have ensnared millions of young people and saddled them with debt they can never repay.

From the Wall Street Journal:

As the loan limit increased over time—now $57,500 a year for independent undergrads and $31,000 for those dependent on their parents—colleges raised their prices to sop up more federal largesse. It doesn’t matter to the schools if their philosophy grads work as baristas.

In 2010 Democrats nationalized the student loan market, eliminating guarantee fees for private lenders and using the “savings” to pay for ObamaCare. They also created income-based repayment plans, allowing future borrowers to limit monthly payments to 10% of their discretionary income and discharge their remaining debt after 10 to 20 years.

The Obama Administration expanded these plans to older borrowers. Democrats claimed the plans would reduce defaults and the cost of the loan program. They didn’t. About five million borrowers owing $110 billion are in default, up from 2.1 million owing $31 billion in 2013. Fewer than half of borrowers were even paying down loans before the pandemic.

A good way to incentivize people to stay poor, or to lie.

That’s par for the course in socialist systems.

All those wealthy trust fund kids form the North East who voted for Biden on the promise of free handouts for their drunken college adventures are going to have a fit over this.

They essentially sold their votes for nothing.

I like an idea proposed on the David Webb show (but not his original idea,) that any degree that requires debt forgiveness would no longer be eligible for future student loans.

If a degree can't pay for itself, it shouldn't be subsidized.

We all see why Obama ‘federalized’ student debt. He gave the Gov control of education and funneled billions to the Universities for indoctrination.

Fed.gov should not be in the student loan business AT ALL.

The rats sent up the trial balloon last week and the blowback must have been huge. So now they are trying to split the baby. Another trial balloon and the blowback will come from the squad. Buying votes is tricky.

This reminds me of the old Rush Limbaugh comment back in the 90’s: The Democrats want to help you just enough to keep you miserable.

I see it this way: I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that you qualify for a government handout. The bad news is that to qualify, you’ve got to be in seriously miserable condition, and the handout will only remove the word, “seriously”.

The exception is stuff like the free cheese handouts they did a few decades ago. My wife ran a daycare in our house and even though I was making $55 an hour as a COBOL programmer (mid-90’s), we were able to cash in on lots and lots of free cheddar. It was pretty good, too. 😂

To be fair, FedGov should CANCEL all current student loan balances, AND 100% REFUND all payments in to date — INCLUDING all those who faithfully paid up or paid in whatever they did.

It’s only money, and it’ll ALL get spent eventually, stimulating the economy. We all know FedGov owns the money printing presses, and creates all the fiat money they want, free.

What about all of the students In college now or about to start college?

What should their expectations be? That any loans they took out will be forgiven?

I am 50-ish. Should I just quit work and become a full time student until I am eligible to retire? I am guessing I can get, education, housing, food and spending money with a student loan.

It’s immoral Joe, to make people who went into the trades pay for the hedonist lifestyle of people who racked-up debt while majoring in Queer Dance Studies.

We shouldn’t have to pay for people who borrowed to delay becoming a productive adult

Here’s the plan folks- if Biden “forgives” student loan debt then:

1- if you have kid(s) in college and have saved to pay their tution, take out a student loan equal to the amount zhao biden forgives then refuse to pay it back. If they threaten your future social security payments then pay it back at $25 a month.

2- If you don’t have kids in college or paid for your kids to get through college or you went to college and paid back YOUR loans, take out any governmental loan possible in the amount equal to what zhoa biden is forgiving and don’t pay it back.

The reason they are is a lot of underprivileged people could not afford college.

So this was Bush’s idea.
