Ukraine says it destroyed Russia's Izyum command center, killing 200 but just missing Russia's top general

Ukraine says it destroyed Russia's Izyum command center, killing 200 but just missing Russia's top general Ukrainian officials said an attack on a key Russian command center in the eastern city of Izyum on Saturday evening killed about 200 Russian troops, including Maj. Gen. Andrei Simonov, but just missed hitting the chief of the general staff of the Russian military, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, who had just concluded a secret visit to the army and airborne command center. Earlier, unconfirmed reports suggested Gerasimov was wounded in the strike.

Two U.S. officials tell The New York Times that Gerasimov had been in eastern Ukraine for the past couple of days, a rare step for Russia's top uniformed officer, but could not provide any information on the attack on School No. 12, Russia's Izyum command center. A senior Ukrainian official told the Times his country had learned of Gerasimov's visit to the front lines, but that the general was already returning to Russia when the rockets struck School No. 12.

"The decision to destroy this object was taken not because of Gerasimov, but because it is an important base of operations," the official said. Gerasimov is one of three key architects of Russia's Ukraine invasion, along with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Putin sent Gerasimov to the front lines to "change the course" of Russia's underwhelming invasion, the Ukrainian official told the Times. "Our working assumption is that he was there because there's a recognition they haven't worked out all their problems yet," a U.S. official confirmed.

If the death of Maj. Gen. Simonov is accurate, he would be at least the 10th Russian general killed during Russia’s Ukraine war. It’s likely that more than a quarter of the 120 battalion tactical groups Russia committed to its invasion “have now been rendered combat ineffective,” Britain’s Ministry of Defense said early Monday. “Some of Russia’s most elite units, including the VDV Airborne Forces, have suffered the highest levels of attrition. It will probably take years for Russia to reconstitute these forces.”

In the Izyum strike, preliminary information indicates “there are senior officers among the dead,” Oleksiy Arestovych, a military adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, tells The Washington Post. “Their combat readiness has been significantly damaged for the Izyum direction. I can’t say that it’s been fully destroyed yet.”

but just missing Russia's top general...

Thrown in there, just to make the stories in the next few days of killing dozens more generals a bit more believable.

We're on to you, MSM.

Is it me or does it look like the generals of today on both sides look like a bunch of dufuses?

I don’t buy that this was a random missile strike by Ukraine. Would not be surprised to learn later that a US drone strike did the deed and that we have US troops on the ground painting targets. Now that Pelosi has come to Ukraine and promised that the US will back Ukraine to the end. Her words

It is kind of fun getting Joe Biden’s Armchair Commandos panties all twisted up over Joes war. They are full of demented moral high ground like most neocon leftists such as Adam Kinzinger.

That is how the left hooks people. They actually are getting people to back them that would ordinarly have no use for Joeys antics.

I wonder what the average American is getting from this war? I figure that question is off the table.

I think the Russians need to give their generals punch cards-after the Ukrainians claim to have killed them

So, which of the Russian generals have been shown to be alive after Ukrainian claims of killing them?

This war never would have happened if Trump was President.

Be sure to thank your Democrat friends for it.

right, this (and any number of other things) has all the hallmarks of advanced sigint.

I think without the US running multiple elements of their defense, Ukraine would have been overrun in days.

I bet Gerasimov is p*ssed! Now he has to give that same 2-hr "pep talk" all over again to their replacements!

Providing intel is no different than US forces striking the target.

Dangerous territory.

If you voted for Kate Brown, you owe Oregon an apology.

If you voted for Biden, you owe the world an apology.

If you vote democrat, you owe God an apology.

https://nypost.com/2022/05/02/dramatic-video-shows-ukrainian-drones-blasting-russian-boats/

Dramatic video captured two Russian military patrol boats being blown up by Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea, the Ukrainian military said.

Footage shows a Turkish-made Bayraktar drone hovering over and striking the high-speed vessels, the Ukrainian military said.

“Two Russian Raptor boats were destroyed at dawn today near Zmiinyi (Snake) Island,” Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Gen. Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, commander in chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, praised the drone technology.

“The Bayraktars are working,” Zaluzhnyi was cited as saying in the statement.

The coastal patrol Raptors, which are about 55 feet long, can carry up to three crew members and 20 troops. They are armed with machine guns.

There was no immediate reaction from Moscow to the ships being hit.

A song about the Bayraktar drone has gone viral in Ukraine, Vice reported
