CHICAGO -- At least 21 people have been shot, seven fatally, in weekend violence across Chicago, police said.
Last weekend, eight people were killed and 42 people were shot in gun violence incidents across the city.

[Mayor Lori] Lightfoot announced her hire of John O’Malley to be deputy mayor for public safety on Wednesday. Aside from being a member of the Chicago Police Board and a former U.S. marshal, O’Malley most recently was director of corporate security for the brokerage firm William Blair & Company until Lightfoot hired him as her public safety czar.As Chicago deputy mayor for public safety, O'Malley seems to be doing a bang-up job!

The purpose of any article is to garner clicks, not to inform. A headline of X people killed this weekend will probably garner more clicks as it makes this sound like something more immediate and newsworthy than X people killed this week in the ongoing tally. I’ll bet the editor has numerics that tells him which type of headline makes the most money. That’s why headlines are so similar. “Do X with this one weird trick,” for example. (Gosh I’m sick of that one.)
They should print the race of the ones shot so the rest of the blacks can see what they are doing to themselves.
Nobody cares - least of all, Groot and the progressives in Chicago city hall.
Holiday weekends are reported accordingly.
7 dead out of 21 shootings. More cost effective than other weekends. The worst case is more shooting and no dead, in which case people in Chicago shoulder all costs, medical, prison, legal and so on
