What third country were the advisors training the South Vietnamese in?
"Exactly how the Vietnam War started in 1965 with U.S. Army 'Advisors', to last 20 years."
That war was entered into under the auspices of SEATO and our 60s government (near a generation away from WWII) at the height of the cold war with the USSR. A game played out with pawn governments and surrogates so as to keep nukes from flying and left to the battle of ideologies - ours is better than yours and we’re willing to enter into a protracted conflict of wills. Willingness to suffer losses and/or lose. We did. Because we (leftists) got too involved, a new generation tuned out and turned on and rebelled. And we lost over 50,000 of our citizens.
Today, we’ve got a new generation of leftist war mongers hell bent on doing something, anything to protect and shield a Democrat government that is floundering BADLY. And it seems the only kickback now is from that older generation of long ago. It seems we didn’t learn a damned thing from Viet Nam, Iraq, or the longest, Afghanistan. This isn’t going to end well because both sides aren’t even trying to keep the nuke option off the table.
Before it was Vietnam, it was Indochina... We are at the Indochina stage in the Ukraine.

Vietnam went until 1985? Was President Reagan aware? Dang, I enlisted in 1982 and no one told me, other than the ongoing POW issue.
