Russia used a diesel submarine in the Black Sea to strike Ukrainian military targets with Kalibr cruise missiles, the first time Moscow has announced the use of its submarine fleet to hit its former Soviet neighbor.

The Russian defense ministry released a video showing a volley of Kalibr missiles emerging from the sea and soaring off into the horizon - to what the ministry said were Ukrainian military targets.

This is the first time Russia's military has reported using submarine strikes against Ukrainian targets, Interfax news agency reported on Friday.

We are approaching the point of no return for WW III.

George Soros has tingles running up and down his legs.

Why is it an escalation in your opinion? It’s no different than the bombings that Russia has been doing over the past 2.5 months

[If the kid on the other side of the playground knocks over another kid’s sandcastle is it really any of uncle Sam’s business to go and beat him up?

We shouldn’t give two craps what happens in crap hole country a and crap hole country b. Especially when it threatens to wreck the entire world.]

This isn’t about sandcastles. It’s about Russia adding a Texas-sized piece of land to its empire and 45m people to its population. That’s how empires become more powerful - by adding land and people they can use to feed, equip and fight in their armies. If Putin wants to have his kids beat up other kids on the playground, that’s a matter for the school principal and the school safety officials. This is war.

Adding to the empire is what Russia does for fun and recreation. Better that the Ukrainians smack the Russians upside the head and ward them off for some period of time than fight the Russians *and* the Ukrainians in Poland or the Baltics.

That’s why we fought Germany in Europe - to prevent it from eventually pacifying its European possessions and using their resources and production as a means to conquer us. Or, if the Russians won, the Russkies using Europe’s resources against us. Same reason we fought the Japanese in the Pacific after Pearl Harbor instead of conceding land the way the Russians did after being defeated in battle in 1905.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Japanese_War

We did not want the Japanese to pacify China and use China’s manpower and resources against us. That’s the reality of staying independent - constant vigilance and material assistance, at minimum, to nations invaded by major powers in strategic areas (e.g. Europe).

IIRC the US got the “good guys” to go along, mostly, as well as a lot of annoying but tolerable guys. In every case a quorum.

Not necessarily. The Russian military has proven massively incompetent, neglecting defensive measures or just unable to switch them on

The US never has invaded a country simply for being “corrupt”.
There was always a geopolitical purpose. Such as, for instance, opposing Soviet expansion, or stopping external aggression.

Which way does the wind blow over Ukraine this time of year. It probably trends west to east, and any nuclear strike, especially in eastern Ukraine will probably go east and northeast, thereby causing Russians a lot of grief. If Putin hits the Eastern Areas with nukes, then that will make oil and gas exploration a lot more hazardous. If he hits further west in Ukraine, that is likely to trigger a more deadly western reaction. Why do you think we have a nuclear sub at Gibralter?

[wow. I’ll just let that one stand on its own.

Hope you’re proud of it. ]

If only it were rape. Women get over rape. The dead from Russia’s invasion will never get their lives back. And here you are, cheering the invaders on. You’re like the guy cheering as a murder victim gets shot full of holes - except tens of thousands of times over. I want to arm these people so they can defend themselves. You want us to stand aside so the Russians can more easily dispose of them.

Lol all you like, but its a damn good proxy for everyone else over here (leaving out the Serbs, who are peculiar in their own way).

Russia has managed even to PO the Swedes and the Swiss to the point that the Swedes want to join Nato and the Swiss are opening the relevant bank accounts. Neither of those things have ever happened.

Thats a lot of fractious, independent peoples all agreeing - thats never happened before. When the Germans agree with the Poles, finally? What has Russia done?

Israel captured the Golan etc in war. Do you suggest they hand it over? The Kuriles are a war booty. East german lands are war booty? You suggest Poland hand them back

/\

Don’t even know how you got that from what I’ve posted.

But, in case it’s just a question you asked me,,

No.

We can’t re battle every conflict from the past all the way back to cain and able.
