Yah, no kidding. Notice how they group suicides with homicides? What you will find if you break out numbers is that there are a heckuva lot of suicides. Tragic, obviously, but deliberately misleading.
The stats themselves are probably true but highly misleading.
Strip out crime related gang violence and you get a new and much much lower number.
In 1983, the average starting salary for graduates of the University of Virginia school of Communication was something like $85,000. Now take out Ralph Sampson and his Houston Rocket's contract and run the numbers again...
