Revolt Brews in Michigan GOP After Elevation of Trump Allies

For Republican supporters of Donald Trump in Michigan, it seemed like a crowning moment: The state party chose two candidates endorsed by the former president, both outspoken preachers of 2020 election falsehoods, as its contenders for the state’s top law enforcement officer and its chief of election administration.

But instead, that move at a convention last weekend — where Republicans officially endorsed Matthew DePerno for attorney general and Kristina Karamo for secretary of state — has ruptured the Michigan Republican Party. After months of strain, it appears to finally be snapping as what remains of the old guard protests the party’s direction.

This week, Tony Daunt, a powerful figure in Michigan politics with close ties to the influential donor network of the DeVos family, resigned from the GOP’s state committee in a blistering letter, calling Trump “a deranged narcissist.” Major donors to the state party indicated that they would direct their money elsewhere. And one of Trump’s most loyal defenders in the state Legislature was kicked out of the House Republican caucus.

“Rather than distancing themselves from this undisciplined loser,” Daunt wrote in his resignation letter, “far too many Republican ‘leaders’ have decided that encouraging his delusional lies — and, even worse — cynically appeasing him despite knowing they are lies, is the easiest path to ensuring their continued hold on power, general election consequences be damned.

“Whether it’s misguided true belief, cynical cowardice, or just plain old grift and avarice,” Daunt continued in the letter, which was addressed to a Republican colleague, “it’s a losing strategy and I cannot serve on the governing board of a party that’s too stupid to see that.”

Boy do they HATE losing their power and influence on the electorate!

The bloom is off the ruse!

Their type of candidate over the past 30 years:

1992 - lost

1996 - lost

2000 - won barely

2004 - won barely

2008 - lost

2012 - lost

They were very happy last time to shiv (their) non-preferred gov candidate with the result that MI is ruled by a trium****ate of communist grinning Dem females.

Similarly they’ve hung John James out to dry twice so far and clearly aim to do the same to James Craig.

I was in Grand Rapids the weekend of the convention. It was also the week Al Sharpton came to town for a white cop/criminal, black, immigrant funeral, but that is another story. My impression is that the AG candidate and, probably, the Sec of State person are unelectable. If my guess is correct, there will be no Republican sweep in Michigan and Gov Witless gets re-elected. The AG candidate is an incompetent, total nightmare; bad enough to pull down all other candidates. SoS in the same boat.

The one thing you can say that separates reptilian democRATs for GOPers is that no matter who has the D beside their name, they’ll embrace the suck and pull the handle for them.

“as what remains of the old guard protests the party’s direction.”

The old guard never guarded anything. They always cucked out. Is that what people want, more RINOs?

DeVos had 4 years and free rein to reform K-12 and did absolutely nothing. I had high hopes but instead she failed miserably. It took a VA Governor's election and some parents to get the ball rolling.

Hillary and the Democrats didn’t campaign in their blue wall states because of the corruption fortress.

The republiCAN’T party in this state is totally useless.
No, I take that back.
When you are useless, you cause no harm.
The republiCAN’T party in this state is a liability.

William Milliken was a two-term “Republican” governor of Michigan. He is noted for the following: 1) complained that the Reagan delegation from Michigan consisted of truck drivers; 2) proudly voted for Hillary in 2016 over Trump; 3) voted for Kerry in 2004 over Gw bush; 4) disendorsed McCain in 2008; 5) endorsed Democrat Gary Peters over his Repubican opponent for the Senate in 2014. We don’t need phonies like Michigan’s Milliken in the R party - its used as a beard for liberal politics and we don’t need the R party identified with them.

If the GOP is already losing elections in MI, what do we have to lose with a little rupture? Make us lose even worse than we are losing??

If the RINO's are playing footsie with the dems, are we really losing anything?

Michigan proved you can go from the one the richest cities / states in THE WORLD back from 1900 - 1950 ....

... to utter SHIT ever since ...

... and is never fixed because a super-majority of citizens (who are left) constantly blame others rather than look in the historical mirror.

This East Coast kid who has lived in Michigan since 2006 is shunned for speaking this truth.

Also, I am warning anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear that this fate has come/is coming to other once-great U.S. cities/states after 2020.

The same is true for some Republican voters, or else Flimsey Grahamnesty would not have been re-elected TWICE after THREE amnesty votes.

As you point out, losing Assistant Democrats is no real loss.
