Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) overestimated the number of Republican senators he thought would vote to convict former President Trump during his second impeachment trial in the upper chamber, according to a new book.

In the book, “This Will Not Pass,” New York Times journalists Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin report that McConnell thought there would be 17 GOP votes to convict Trump the weeekend after Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

PDJT was to be removed from office for asking for investigation of Democrat vote fraud?

,” New York Times journalists Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin report that McConnell thought

Why should we believe anything written in the NYTs? I suppose the two "journalists" are mind readers, to know what McConnell thought. Or, they are being told what he thought from another source.

They lie all the time.

He’s got a good handle on the members. 17 is probably an accurate count. As the event progressed, some of them got cold feet. They wanted to convict, but that would be unpopular, i.e., maybe cost them their place in the aristocracy.

He wanted 17 so that Trump could be prevented from ever holding office again.

50 + 17 = 67

Didn’t happen. When you strike a king, strike to kill. Or reap the whirlwind.

Mitch needs to Make America Greater by dying a painful death.

If not, there’s gotta be a conviction somewhere in the millions he made off selling his office.

He miscalculated and will soon pay the price. Watch what happens 9 months from now.

The only thing that will save them (they think) will provoking Russia to engage in nuclear war. Hiding in their bunkers will not save them.

This is McConnell we’re taking about.

Do you that this snake isn’t capable of such treachery?

Agreed. And we can’t primary him until 2026.

Best chance is to have the (hopefully majority) Republican Senate vote him out of leadership in Jan 2023.

Clearly McConnell is an enemy of the people. A bought and paid for shill for China and other Anti-American entities.

He’ll pay no price, and be lauded as a statesman by the establishment when he croaks. And leave millions to his descendants.

I’ve always thought that the elites in their bunkers were just clueless. If everyone on the surface dies then the elites will die too when they emerge. If a lot of people survive then their reaction to seeing these elites will not be to welcome their rule. The people who survive will kill the elites on sight.

These are the 7 GOP scumbags that voted to remove Trump from office AFTER Biden was already installed on 1/21/2020.

Richard Burr, North Carolina
Bill Cassidy, Louisiana
Susan Collins, Maine
Lisa Murkowski, Alaska
Mitt Romney, Utah
Ben Sasse, Nebraska
Pat Toomey, Pennsylvania

How many of them will still be alive a year from now?

We’ll see who Trump backs for Senate Majority Leader after the November elections.

That, more than anything, will dictate how this goes.

What riot is the Hill referring to. If they are talking about the January 6 peaceful demonstration they must be referring to the cop shooting in the face an unarmed military veteran who was touring the Capitol. I don’t recall there being any signs in the building stating “Beware, tourists may be shot!”
