They do appear to have their turrets blown completely off, thanks to the design.

Here's a YT video of a Javelin test on a Russian T-72. The turret goes 50 ft in the air and lands about 30 feet away from the carcass. At the end of the 2nd closeup of the tank being hit, you can see a big splash of dirt off to the right. That's the turret finally coming down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIlROqW0fnc

Shows you can’t believe everything you hear :)

As far as best tank in the world - South Korean’s K2 Black Panther is definitely in the running.

Robert Shaw is always underrated. Which is different than Sterling Hayden, who is incapable of being overrated.

An amazingly accurate article (especially for CNN) on the main design failing of Russian, aka Soviet designed, tanks in combat in the Ukraine. It is definitely worth reading it in full. And good photos too.

Russia’s arms industry has been in financial and technological decline since the last years of the USSR. Redesigning a tank’s internal shell loading mechanism requires an admission that the current tank design is defective and then detailed and expensive engineering work to fix it. In addition, Russia’s military leaders have a notoriously low regard for the lives and well-being of their troops. The result is that in the tradeoff between spending for greater tank combat power or crew protection, the crew loses.

The autoloaders: the design is too small to add a human loader, so they have to keep the auto loader, which means they have to keep rounds in the turret to feed it. Can’t be fixed- you need a complete redesign which would obsolete all their tanks and add 33% more crew.

His tanks did have slipped armor. Agree the Ruskies put in the engine and other modifications. The transmission was suspect but it got the job done.

The present British cabinet includes a Michael Gove, a Liz Truss, a Grant Shapps, monosyllabic all. There’s also a Rishi Sunak ,a Priti Patel and a Saeed Javid. The only follower of your caricature is Jacob Rees Mogg.

“Even the Germans acknowledged that for overall battlefield performance, the T-34 was the best fighting vehicle deployed.”

You might get an argument from the Russian tankers themselves. They loved the Sherman. And no, they didn’t call them Ronson’s. The T34 was MORE likely to cook off after getting hit.

Not to worry. After seditious, treasonous, mercenary presidents Karter, Klinton, O’DUMMY, and now, pedo joe, I’m absolutely certain our enemies know all about our weaknesses.

"Sloped" armor. There was a whole lot more of the tank design that was Russian and very little borrowed from Christie.

And however flawed you may think the transmission was - it was the soul of reliability compared to the Tiger or Panther tank's transmissions.

I'd be willing to bet that you've never been inside a T-34, have you?

Ah... I see you skipped the logic course in High School.

Totally agree with you. The conversation needs to be much more civil that what I’ve been reading as well. Lighten up, my friends, the Left loves this kind of division!
