Adding yet more impetus to the urgent call for reform, a state investigation found that the Minneapolis Police Department routinely violated civil rights law over the past decade by engaging in a pattern of racial discrimination.

Minneapolis On Record Pace For Homicides In 2022

Reg Chapman April 25, 2022

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — In the past five days, there have been five homicides in Minneapolis.

Investigators are working non-stop to gather evidence to bring those responsible to justice, but Minneapolis is once again on a record pace for homicides in 2022. MPD spokesperson Garrett Parten says there were three murders this weekend within a span of 15 hours.

“Just before noon we had a shooting in the 4100 block of Portland [Avenue], and then about 12 hours later, just before midnight, there was a shooting in the area of Lagoon and Hennepin, between Hennepin and Girard, and then two hours later on a transit bus there was a stabbing that occurred that resulted with a death,” Parten said.

A fatal shooting in on Bryant Avenue North on April 20, and another murder in the 600 block of 1st Avenue North on two days puts Minneapolis on pace for a record-breaking year. “Twenty-six [homicides] year to date last year. We’re at 27 today, and that unfortunately is the case that we’re on pace to last year’s trend,” Parten said. Police are working around the clock — but they need help.

“In times when we see murder rates going up, we need people talking more,” he said.

MPD hopes if people are uncomfortable speaking with officers, they look for community leaders or boots-on-the ground organizations.

“We’re asking for partners in the community, those who can reach out to individuals with a propensity to violence, and speak with them,” Parten said.

Police know there is no way to police yourself out of this surge in violence. The only way is to stand shoulder to shoulder with community and work together to make a difference.

I'm so old I remember it was considered "racist" to arrest too few blacks because "them police make sure there's no crime in rich white folks' neighborhoods but don't care if black neighborhoods get torn up by crime".

So police departments all across the nation heard their plea and started being more active where the most crime was. Some of the blacks I went to church with talked about it with an attitude of gratitude -- they were glad their neighborhoods were safer.

But the Gotta-Complain-About-Something Dims found a reason it's bad.

“...routinely violated civil rights law over the past decade by engaging in a pattern of racial discrimination.”

Like muzzie cops killing white women.

Sounds dangerous.

I like to watch those “auditor” videos of police acting badly. IMO, it’s not a racial profiling thing. Those most at risk of police acting badly are:

1. Minorities
2. Poor
3. Young

This video is an excellent case in point:

The good news is that these videos are VERY educational. With that, I’ll add a fourth group:

4. The ignorant

To me, the most telling angle to the George Floyd debacle was that one of the officers charged in the incident was a 36 year-old rookie — and that he wasn’t a minority or female “diversity hire,” but a white male. That is clearly an indication of a police department that is desperate to hire anyone who walks upright and has an IQ over 70.

I have a strong distrust of cops, along with any State actors, but the problem is stupid people running or resisting, simple as that. There have been some exceptions and those are tragic - wrong addresses at no knock raids yes- and should be punished, but anyone stupid enough to fight with the cops is too stupid to live

Did any rational decent person expect a “state investigation” run by Minnesota Democrats would be truthful?
Also police are not stupid or masochistic. Very few of the minority on minority murderers are arrested and even fewer are tried ,convicted or sent to prison. The police know that if they were to do thorough investigations, community policing, it is they the police who are more likely to get in trouble and even arrested. They know they have no real support from the politicians. The cops that remain on duty in urban areas mostly stay because they need the salaries and benefits. Their prime intent is to go home safely to their families at the end of their shifts. Its of course the communities that elect these bizarre politicians that suffer the most grief.

That video I posted is a favorite. The cop went to prison for planting evidence in her car and it is on the body-cam video.

I’ve learned two things from these videos, even though being an elderly white male I probably don’t have to worry about it (except when driving my one beater car).

First, politely refuse to answer questions, even the “do you know why I stopped you?” question. Second, NEVER allow them to search your car unless it becomes out of your control (e.g. they say a dog “indicated”)

I’ve learned that if you are pulled over for an infraction, they can only detain you for as long as it would reasonably take to issue a citation and send you on your way. They can’t do anything else unless there is “reasonable suspicion that a crime may have been, or is about to be committed, or there is probable cause (e.g. a bag of weed on the seat).

And if you have to wait for a drug dog, yet there was no reasonable suspicion, etc., and you refused a search, that means that the length of the stop was not legal and the 10 lbs of coke in your trunk is not admissible evidence. But they’ll still probably keep it for personal use. 🤣

One funny thing is that sometimes they will use “he looked nervous” as “reasonable suspicion”. But that’s already been successfully argued against in court. I was in my late forties when I finally stopped being nervous when a cop stopped me. It’s reasonable for an innocent person to be nervous when confronted by police. Especially when they have a low paying job and can’t afford a ticket.

Not only are blacks outdoing themselves in the crime department, but few are coming forward to help solve the crimes. If blacks are so concerned about how they are treated by the cops, maybe they should behave themselves so that the cops won’t have an interest in them. I know, expecting people to behave themselves and not commit crimes is now “racist”.

There was a great episode of Cops that I saw recently (currently available on Reelz).

A black kid flees from the police while tossing a gun, then some cocaine while he flees.

He fights with them when they catch him and gets scratches on his face from nearby bushes.

They cuff him and bring him back to the police car.

They call his mother on the phone and she shows up.

Mom says “What are you doing with a gun and cocaine? I brought you up better than that.”

Kid say “Look at my face. The racist cops did this to me.”

Mom says “In our household we don’t go there. If you run from the cops you deserve what you get.”

She nailed it.

What's more racist, arresting a thug who happens to black or not arresting a thug because he's black?

I can't help but suspect that most people killed by cops, regardless of race, are junkies resisting arrest.

Give the cops clear procedures so they don't have to be second guessed in the courts afterwards.

Seems like the groups that would be most likely to dismiss police and act foolish when being approached by them.

It however should be noted that Minneapolis and its police department have been under the sole leadership of the Democrats (in Minnesota the Democrat Farmer Labor Party or DFL) for more than 40 years. You would think that after decades of enlightened liberal leadership the police department would be a paragon of social justice and the model of liberal leadership. In recent years the office of Minneapolis Police Chief has been a occupied by a lesbian Native American, a Black Hispanic and now a woman. Surely with such diverse leadership the Department should have been the model of social justice. The city itself is being lead by a Council primarily of women including a trans female and the mayor is gay. Yet dispute this model diverse leadership the city is now a crime ridden hellhole with residents fleeing to safer suburbs. Yes the Minneapolis Police Department is a failure, but look at who has been in leadership for 40 years and then ask why.

The Twin Cities has voted for DECADES of Democrat control. They WANT the murder, the theft, the drug use, the chaos...

This is HOW they want to live.

There can be no other rational conclusion drawn.
