I don’t think Mother Theresa is waiting in the wings.
I do agree that a lot of observers were shocked at how bad (incompetent?) the Red Army has behaved in this war.
It’s very hard to find a good independent source of truthful info out there given the massive propaganda campaign being waged by both sides.
That said, Mariupol is a wasteland like Aleppo. Even the Ukes admit that much.
We may never know the real true story of how bad or good the invasion was. This war won’t end soon.
I think it’s “slobber Ukraini”.
It doesn’t really matter but Maine is 35,385 sq. mi,
and the Ukraine is 233,031 sq. mi.
This reminds me of the old Soviet days when they would rattle the sabre but back then, the media and the left wing politicians were allies and would amplify the scary talk, and it would resonate with the public. Now that the media are not on the side of Russia, their threats have no resonance, they are not reported with the desired fear and trembling.
However, that may not be such a great thing if they actually mean any of these threats. We tend to scoff at them because obviously mutually assured destruction would be the end result, so it’s basically a suicide threat. Besides Putin, how many powerful people in Russia want to commit suicide?
Or spend a year in a subway station? With random Russians?
Then come out to find nothing left. Well maybe the odd burned out Lada. You don’t need a nuclear war to get that to happen.
*This war won’t end this year
*Russia will not lose to Ukraine
*Energy prices will skyrocket (killing many worldwide)
*Food prices will skyrocket (killing many more worldwide)
And all because Russia invaded, though n. 2 is still in doubt. Vietnam and Afghanistan should warn anyone about who will win in the end.
The State Department is looking for people like you to staff it’s overseas stations. You would fit right in.
True but I think Putin is (hopefully) a unique problem in terms of aggressiveness.
If overseas energy prices skyrocket faster than they do here, is that a bad thing?
“When a thug confronts me with a gun in a parking lot, I’m going to call him “sir”, and resolve to respond later.”
You don’t know what his intentions are. For all you know, he wants to shoot you just for kicks. So, it depends. If you have gun, as well, you have a choice to make.
By God you are a brave man, sprayng logic at a crowd like this... LOL
My concern is that the replacement, if a hardliner, will have the need to prove himself to world leaders.
Of course the replacement might be better.
There’s still no endgame in sight right now.
You no doubt have have significant expertise under that topic.
“And all because Russia invaded, though n. 2 is still in doubt. Vietnam and Afghanistan should warn anyone about who will win in the end.”
I agree. At this point, Russia loses even if it “wins” militarily. It will certainly lose geopolitically no matter how the war turns out.
The dude is rapidly talking himself into a forced coup d’etat.
They aint cornered when they’re the ones who invaded. They could just go back home.
—> they’re just getting their asses kicked by a smaller country in a tiny of part of Europe
Russia is being beaten by a behind the scenes coalition (mainly US) using our vast resources and weapons and training behind Ukrainian faces.
The sooner you have a gun, the sooner you respond. And if all you have is a BB gun you might use it, like the Ukrainians have done.
