I’d point out that when a top Chinese corporate official was arrested by Canada that the Chinese expected that official would be let go because they wanted her back. The Chinese expected that Canada would respond the way they would respond had the Chinese official been arrested in China. Canada is not China. Singapore is not the rest of the world. When in Rome...The rest of the world considers that the American justice system, which occasionally executes someone, is barbaric.

I first visited Singapore about 30 years ago.On the plane we were given a landing card for immigration and customs that we were to hand in at the immigration desk. The one I was handed was in English...I assume that they were printed in other languages as well.

On it,at the bottom,were the words "Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers Under Singapore Law". I nearly soiled my underwear despite the fact that I never use,or traffick,drugs.

Also,while waiting in line to get to the immigration/customs desk there was a big sign,in several languages,saying the same thing.Next to it was an "amnesty" bin. I was very tempted to drop my blood pressure meds into it...just in case.

There are at least a few countries,including Singapore,that *will* execute you for drugs...regardless of your nationality or your IQ.
