I’ve been thinking the shanghai lock down is more about power that anything that has to do with a new covid variant.

the other is the shanghai lockdown shuts down the shipping business which inflicts more supply chain damage on the USA
so in Xi’s mind, it might be worth is to lose thousands or millions of chinese if the lockdown can do enough damage to the US??

Xi’s arch rival’s home turf/power base is Shanghai.
The lockdowns are all about POWER and CONTROL...not about “health”.
And that applies to the Western Hemisphere as well.
