Surprise Surge for Barnette in Pennsylvania Senate Primary
NewsMax ^ | 4/25/2022 | John Gizzi

Ten days after a Trafalgar Poll showed Kathy Barnette running an unusually close third in the Republican primary for U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, talk and support have been mounting for the TV commentator whom few — if any — had given a chance against two multimillionaire front-runners.

Last week, Sen. Joni Ernst issued a surprise endorsement for Barnette — one of two women in the six-candidate primary for the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey and the only contender who is Black. Iowa Republican Ernst, vice-chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and a conservative stalwart, is considered a promising Republican office-holder.

Other major endorsements are expected to come Barnette's way before the primary May 17.

Trafalgar showed celebrity Dr. Mehmet Oz, who recently secured Donald Trump's endorsement, leading among likely voters with 22.7%, followed by hedge fund executive David McCormick with 19.7%, and Barnette with 18.4%.

"And those two have each spent at least $18 million of their own money to become known, and I've spent $2 million — almost all of it from small donations," Barnette told Newsmax.

Trump's endorsement of Oz notwithstanding, McCormick, Barnette, and four other Republican hopefuls are all campaigning as strong supporters of the 45th president.

More than one Republican activist from the Keystone State who spoke to Newsmax believes that the increasingly negative media salvos McCormick and Oz have launched against one another have led primary voters to start considering a third candidate.

"They're two A-level candidates and they are beating the c**p out of each other," said one veteran GOP activist from Erie County who requested anonymity. "Both are conservatives, but flunk certain saliva tests. Barnette has attitude and evangelicals, plus a grassroots network that she has cobbled together through two years of hard work in the trenches."

It’s not a surprise for anyone who has met and spoken with Kathy. She’s sincere, patriotic, and hard working. She and her mother - who sometimes joins her on the campaign trail - are inspiring in their support of the unborn. When Kathy was cheated of her house seat, she hired people to figure out what happened and then turned her attention to running for the senate. She knows just how fraudulent elections are in SE PA and yet she’s still out there meeting voters in large groups and small.

Here’s the only question that counts— which candidate would run best against the ‘rat? Establishment republicans seem to favor McCormick. Is he a plausible candidate?

“Was this the same coutry girl who promised to castrate some DC politicians? She became a swamp rat instead.”

Yes — Ernst. (Not Barnette.)

"Statewide elections in Pennsylvania are won and lost in the suburbs of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Barnette is from suburban Philadelphia — and LOST the only race she ran for elected office there (for Congress in 2020)."

Kathy's 2020 race was lost in same 'middle-of-the-night' manner as President Trump. I saw her that evening after the polls closed, and things looked very solid. In the morning when the election wizards had done their work, the results had flipped for both of them. It has been learned that there are many phantom voters in our area, and there is video of ballot box stuffing. She called it 'death by a thousand cuts'. I witnessed a few of those cuts, and I believe her statement is accurate. Whether she or any candidate on the right can overcome the dirty PA electoral machinery is a fair question, but I support her. I trust her to do right by PA if she can get into office. Smarmy slippery RINOs can take a flying leap.

Ha! Ha ha ha ha ha! Conservative stalwart. Eye roll.

The Conservative Review Liberty Score has her at a 66% for a grade of D.

Why is the word, “Black” capitalized? Is there some new grammar rule I have missed? Are we to capitalize White, Red, Yellow and Black when describing the skin hue of people now?

I’m not sure why that started being a thing and I’ve found myself typing it out like that myself lately I guess from seeing it like that in every publication over time.

I donated to Kathy Barnette but have changed my mind about her.

That one sentence pretty much captures the essence of the disastrous state of Pennsylvania GOP politics.

He kept his word to Specter, and his wife Karen was furious with him for doing so. No one is perfect. BTW, Rick’s endorsement did not sway MY vote. lol

Trump’s poor judgment of people has been his undoing many times.

Specter returned the favor by bailing out on the GOP and changing parties before the 2010 election -- which he lost to Toomey anyway.

Santorum never recovered from this, in my mind.

Doug Mastriano is running for governor. He spoke at our Tea Party meetings several times, and he made a good impression. When we realized he voted for Act 77, we could never support him. He’s naive, IMO.

Barnette is my choice. Awesome lady. Follow her on social media and you will be impressed. Trump should have endorsed her.

I have been saying for months that no Republican who is currently serving in Pennsylvania's state legislature will win either statewide race this November (governor or U.S. Senator).

I hope the GOP voters are smart enough to steer clear of these hapless mediocrities.

No to Kathy. I gave her money, but learned that she supports Mastriano who voted for Act 77, which gave us mail-in voting. Mail-in voting gave us Biden.

She was a novice who got no help from the national party. Candidates like Kathy change this country for the better even when they lose. We need more like her--and she needs a full-court press from the GOP apparatus and MAGA Republicans together.

Lou Barletta is running for governor & has spoken at our Tea Party meetings at least 3 times. He’s a real conservative & gave out information that Biden was flying illegals into Scranton this past winter. I spoke to him about 2 weeks ago when he came to our candidate’s forum. His wife, kids, & grandkids were with him. Nice family.

I think Barletta is the best candidate for the governor’s race. My only concern about him is that he’s already lost one statewide race in PA in 2018 (and by a sizable margin), so I’m not sure what has changed in four years to improve his chances with the voters.

Lackawanna GOP chairman accused me of being a phony b/c I refused to vote for either Specter or dyky Barb Hafer.
Who was proved loyal in the end, as both creeps became Democrats?

Amen. He was firm on illegal aliens as mayor of Hazelton, when no one in the GOP gave him assistance.
