Sen. Elizabeth Warren: Democrats need to ‘get off our rear ends’ and address costs

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Sunday that Democrats will be in “real trouble” in this year’s midterm elections unless they take tangible steps to tackle soaring costs and make the economy work for regular Americans.

The Massachusetts Democrat said she understands why President Biden is touring the country to trumpet accomplishments but added that Americans will expect lawmakers to make big changes as inflation hits a 40-year high.

“If we do it over the next 200 days we’re going to be in fine shape,” Mrs. Warren told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think we’re going to be in real trouble if we don’t get up and deliver.”

She outlined a few moves Democrats should make. She said they should tackle price-gouging, arguing that big corporations are taking a “big dollop of extra profits” amid the fog of supply-chain problems following the pandemic.

She said Congress should pivot power from corporate interests to constituents by prohibiting lawmakers from trading stocks. She also said the government should cancel student loan debt, saying it would benefit “tens of millions” of American families.

Canceling debt is a popular idea on the progressive left, but centrists and others worry it would send the wrong message to people who paid off loans while failing to address the underlying problem of soaring college costs.

Price controls. Idiotic, but sounds good and appears to work in the short term until shortages build. Which in turn, can be “fixed” by demagoguery and rationing. It is a predictable sequence.

Warren: “We’ll be ok if we get something done in the next 200 days.”

TRANSLATION: There’s nothing Brandon can do in 200 days (before election) so prepare for the ranks of RATS and Uniparty in Congress to take a massive hit.

Warren sees ZERO near term hope. She’s saying this so she can lead the opposition and move up the RAT ladder in 2023.

Inflation soaring, gas prices skyrocketing, the stock markets crashing. Nothing will save them, except the Republicans who take the majority.

Exactly. There's NO such thing as Democrats reducing the cost of living.

Democrats may talk a good game about being the biggest defenders and protectors of the poor and middle class against the big bad rich people and their corporations. But give them the reins of power over a city, state, or country long enough and they make it much too expensive to live and survive for everyone except the rich and wealthy.

Witness the top 10 most expensive cities in the United States to live in. All of them controlled by Democrats.

“take tangible steps to tackle soaring costs”
Translation: Donors send us as much $$$ as possible or we are going to loose the Senate and House

In a sane world EW would be a minor professor at a community college, giving wailing lectures and failing white men for being white men.

We're not in a sane world.

So, her 1st suggestion is price controls on private business. A tactic which has never worked and has always made things worse.

If they are going to finish the destruction of the economy with ideas like this why not hasten the process and just cancel all debt?

Why not indeed?!

Pinkos solution is always to just piss away more money and set up committees and divisions and departments and so on. Always.

She also said the government should cancel student loan debt, saying it would benefit “tens of millions” of American families.

Oh come now, Senator Warren - you can be bolder than that. How about price controls on tuition and capping professor and administrator salaries? Then a $20 minimum wage for all lower level employees at these institutions.

Academia these days promotes such warped policies for other businesses to "bring down costs" and to "help the poor" - they should set the example and show how it is done.
