COVID Data Tracker Weekly Review 22 April 2022
CDC ^ | 22 April 2022 | CDC

Posted on 04/22/2022 7:13:27 PM PDT by BeauBo

Since the last weekly review:

New cases up 35.3% (from very low levels)

New Hospitalizations up 8.3%

Deaths down 9.4%

Test Positivity Rate 5.3% (up from 3.7% last week)

Variants: About 100% of new cases are Omicron, about 95% of those are the sub-variant BA.2 family, with about 19% of the total being the currently fastest growing sub-variant (BA.2.12.1).

(Excerpt) Read more at cdc.gov ...

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Culture/Society; Government; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: ba2; ba2121; covid19; omicron
The small bump from the BA.2 subvariant may have crested this week at the level of the National average. The BA.2 subvariant of Omicron is still the dominant strain, but its subvariant BA.2.12.1 is increasing proportionally. BA.2.12.1 was especially spreading last week in the States of NY and NJ. Puerto Rico also saw an above average growth in new cases last week, but I did not see any information on the variant proportions there.

Variant Proportions:

New Cases

New Hospitalizations

Deaths

We should no longer be counting the number of new daily cases especially with take home covid tests becoming popular.

Might as well do the common cold or flu tracker at this point. How about pollen count?

We got an apparent small bump in case numbers from the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron, but that may have crested this week. A sub-variant of BA.2 (BA.2.12.1) is now the fastest growing strain Nationally, at about 19% of the total.

BA.2.12.1 swapped pieces of their spike proteins at locations L452Q and S704L (The Delta variant had a switch at 452, and this helped the virus bind more tightly to ACE2 receptors on our cells). No indications yet of this sub-variant differing in severity from Omicron generally.

Arkansas has had extremely low levels of new cases over the last week. Colorado has seen a rise from low levels, similar to the National average.

“Might as well do the common cold or flu tracker at this point.”

True. There are a few Doctors/Medical folks here who have been working COVID. It is mainly just a brief weekly peek for their situational awareness.

“We should no longer be counting the number of new daily cases especially with take home covid tests becoming popular.”

It is no longer equivalent to the same measurements of new cases as before, but could still give an indication if things are are changing week to week.

Test positivity rate has increased the last few weeks as well (on a generally declining number of cases), while new case numbers were showing a bit of a small bump (BA.2).

Pretty sure the Brits and Chinese in Shanghai don’t call it that.

The Brits logged 600+ deaths today and proportional numbers are overdue in the US. That would correspond to about 2400 dead in the US.

It’s probably time to revisit those stories of changes to how deaths would be counted — after the DNC commissioned that polling firm to tell them how to survive the Midterms. The answer, of course, was get the virus off the front page and stop being associated with it. The MSM were instructed accordingly and have largely complied with the aid of Ukraine

S Korea is still logging triple digits. They had never seen numbers of dead like they are getting in all 2 years.

Hard to deduce why US death numbers are not higher, unless they can’t be trusted. You have to remember this is the Democrats. If they choose to not reveal death counts, loosen restrictions, and get more people killed, they don’t care. “Republican control would kill far more than anything like what we may do.”

We should never have been counting the number of often “asymptomatic” daily “cases” based on the inappropriate (or other) PCR test.

A lot of people died in the winter Omicron surge. It wasn't that bad in the UK so it may just be surging over there just now.

Soon the weather is going to be heating up in Arizona and Florida so we'll have to pay attention to trends in both states. As you already know, when the weather is too hot (or humid) outside, people will go inside for the air conditioning.

Seems like this is going to be a nasty bug we are going to live with indefinitely.

Where are the new vaccines that are being approved everywhere but the US? Because of Pfizer.

Lots of folks still buy the BS put out by the CDC and government as fact even after all the proven lies.

Guess the covid cultist just can help themselves.

Thanks for the reminder. I reinstalled my OS recently but hadn’t reinstalled my feed reader yet. Just did so and re-added food recalls feed;

https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/contact-fda/stay-informed/rss-feeds/food-safety-recalls/rss.xml

Almost every website had an rss feed. It’s built into most Content Management Systems like WordPress. fda.gov runs Drupal CMS.

As far as I know, FR does not have an rss feed. FR itself looks much like an rss feed.

New cases continue to go up slightly. (it's probably more than what is being reported right now) Something to keep an eye on.
