Far-right wing website InfoWars on Sunday filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in the face of multiple defamation lawsuits.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures put a hold on all civil litigation matters and allow companies to prepare turnaround plans while remaining operational.
Alex Jones, founder of InfoWars, was found liable for damages in a trio of lawsuits last year filed after he falsely claimed that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax.
Jones claimed the shooting, in which 20 children and six school employees were shot dead at the school in Newtown, Connecticut, was fabricated by gun-control advocates and mainstream media.
Sandy Hook families in late March rejected Jones' offer to settle their defamation lawsuit and reopened the case. Jones had offered to pay $120,000 to each of the 13 plaintiffs to settle the case.
Each of the plaintiffs turned down the settlement offer in court documents, saying, "The so-called offer is a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook."
According to Sunday's court filings, InfoWars listed its estimated assets in the range of $0-$50,000 and estimated liabilities in the range of $1 million to $10 million.

How is it "free speech"? You've never been allow to slander and defame someone. Alex Jones used his massive platform to imply these people were lying crisis actors. He 100% defamed them to a huge audience.
This was always going to catch up to him eventually. Same thing happened with PizzaGate, the owner of the pizza restaurant was going to sue him for libel for basically saying he was running a child sex basement underneath his restaurant, and Jones apologized and publicly retracted what he said.
I agree. He might have great patriotic intentions, but when he goes off the handle every other year it defeats the purpose. I know a few people who dismiss any thought of election fraud simply because Jones was there in DC protesting it.
Many conservatives have trouble understanding the deeper context of our times.
The left’s goal is to silence speech by intimidation—they are using every tool in the toolkit to make it happen.
Jones was an easy target—low hanging fruit—but at the end of the day they are coming after you.
What about Smollett or the Syria gas attack he got those right....

Well, if I slander you, or libel you, or threaten you specifically, then I deserve it, exactly as if I discharged a firearm into your home.
It’s pretty hard to prove libel or slander, it requires not only that the statement be false but that the person defaming *knew* it was false.
Sometimes the ‘low hanging fruit’ is just rotten.
It’s a lot like guns. I am a fervent believer in the right to own, and carry, damned near anything. However I don’t have the right to drunkenly brandish a gun, threaten people with it (other than in self defense), fire it up in the air, and can reasonably be held responsible if I loan it to a child, a known criminal, or a drunk.
Idiots like Jones, much like a moron neighbor I had who later chased his girlfriend’s lover down the street shooting at him after he caught them, deserve no sympathy and are useful idiots for the Left.

I have no sympathy for Jones in particular—but I think a lot of folks around here do not understand the full context that surrounds Sandy Hook.
There was another individual who was sued and had his book on Sandy Hook banned—if you dig hard enough you can find his name.
Random Person A libeling Random Person B is not the same as making unproved allegations against the Deep State.
One is personal—one is political.

Alex was sued for defamation. He failed to respond to info required by the court. Hence the default judgement
What folks seem to miss is this bunch suing Jones are backed by rabid Anti Gun activists..Democrats used this tragic event as a Photo op\Dance Party the likes not seen before..Regular who’s who of Leftist Democrats at the funeral bolstered by the Media playing up like no tomorrow...Yet they get a pass.
And then these parents had to deal with communiques from absolute strangers calling them liars and worse.
All because a jackhole on the internet said it didn't happen.
Alex Jones is an apathetic, disgusting liar. I have read elsewhere as Jones is declaring bankruptcy, he is the subject of a second lawsuit related to this, as it has been discovered he has a net worth of $11.5 million, which he's trying to hide through a shell game.
Basically, Jones has no intention of taking any responsibility for those he intentionally hurt. He deserves nothing but made broke and homeless.
