Alex Jones' InfoWars files for bankruptcy in U.S. court

Far-right wing website InfoWars on Sunday filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas in the face of multiple defamation lawsuits.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures put a hold on all civil litigation matters and allow companies to prepare turnaround plans while remaining operational.

Alex Jones, founder of InfoWars, was found liable for damages in a trio of lawsuits last year filed after he falsely claimed that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax.

Jones claimed the shooting, in which 20 children and six school employees were shot dead at the school in Newtown, Connecticut, was fabricated by gun-control advocates and mainstream media.

Sandy Hook families in late March rejected Jones' offer to settle their defamation lawsuit and reopened the case. Jones had offered to pay $120,000 to each of the 13 plaintiffs to settle the case.

Each of the plaintiffs turned down the settlement offer in court documents, saying, "The so-called offer is a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook."

According to Sunday's court filings, InfoWars listed its estimated assets in the range of $0-$50,000 and estimated liabilities in the range of $1 million to $10 million.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences.

‘Freedom of speech’ has *ALWAYS* had common law -and common sense - exclusions. Defamation and incitement to riot have never been allowed without repercussion, not in England, not in the Colonies, not with the Founders.

He had the freedom of speech to say it. This isn’t .gov coming after him, or stopping him from speaking.

Well, Jones said the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax and involved child actors.

He talked about the 9/11 tower attacks being false flag operations by the U.S. Gov’t.

When he finally gave a deposition in the Sandy Hook defamation case(s), he reversed himself and said he was suffering from a form of psychosis when he said the killings were a hoax.

Leaving aside the freedom of speech vs defamation claims just for a minute. Why are some people so eager for this guy to be face of conservatism?

This guy admitted under oath to being a psychotic liar. I don’t want him associated in any way with conservatives.

You obviously haven’t read the defamation laws

You can rant all you want. Court decisions have been made

It is not freedom of speech we have a right to. It is interference by the federal government that we have a right to. Still it is not absolute. You cannot defame someone (which Alex did)

They just won’t. Better to destroy and bring down the whole MAGA edifice than not have their every wish fulfilled.
What makes you think they aren't using the OZ endorsement as a building block to fulfill their wish of bringing down MAGA... AKA Trump?

Speaking truth to power is dead in the US.

.Gov just uses Big Tech and private lawsuits to do their dirty work.

First they go after Alex Jones.

Then they go after you.

Wait until someone accuses you of defamation.

Then you will “get it”.

Quit whining. Alex is a blowhard and specializes in outrage. When he FAILED to respond to a court to produce documents and data the judge issued a default order. He did this to himself

I am not a fan of Alex Jones.

I am a fan of free speech.

If that is “whining” so be it.

And yet ignorant people will still invoke ‘Freedom of speech’ or even, God help us, ‘The First Amendment’, demonstrating that they know exactly nothing about the Constitution.

It is easy to accuse others of “knowingly speaking lies” anytime someone speaks out against the approved narrative.

Here is one anecdote from that time period.

I live in CT and immediately after Sandy Hook there were several emergency medical technicians/paramedics from Fairfield County that called in to local talk shows.

Their story was never reported in the mass media.

They said that they heard about the shootings on the radio and immediately stopped what they were doing and rushed to their local hospital’s helipad to volunteer to help save any wounded children at the school.

These hospitals would be about a ten minute helicopter ride to the school, so they were sure they would be able to save lives.

When they arrived at the helipad their supervisor asked:

“What are you doing here? I didn’t call you in to work.”

They were then told to go home.

(Then we find out that there were no wounded children at Sandy Hook. I leave it as an exercise to look at other major school shootings—you will see that in every major case there were many more wounded than killed.)

That proves nothing—but raises “reasonable doubt” about the official narrative.

“Freedom of speech” does not, never has, and never will include the right to libel or slander. I, too prefer to err on the side of ‘too much’ freedom, but I don’t have the right to publish an article or webpage accusing you of pedophilia, murder, or treason. Public officials have much less protection, but if you accused me of such, damned right I can sue, and vice versa. No rights are, or can be, unlimited, that’s a fact of law and common sense.
