We are not being told the truth about either side in this.
There is no way that the bulk of the Ukrainians are Nazi’s. It does not fit the pattern of their history.
On the other hand, Putin knows he will never get another chance to recover what he considers Russian assets. He knows that Xi-O’Biden is worse than weak and that the ComDems are ball less and run by total idiots.

The bulk of the Ukrainian Army are not Nazis. However, they support them by association when they allow the white nationalists to stay in their military. Most of the neo-Nazi fighters were sent to Mariupol (their headquarters in a sense) and to the area separating the Donbass and Ukraine where they were given permission by Kiev to terrorize, shell, and bomb the citizens living in the area 24/7 for 8 years.

It is shaping up to be the Ukrainian Alamo. Its a remarkable performance really. The garrison has crippled a first line Russian Division (150th Motor Rifle), and at least one Naval Brigade, and held out for a month and a half while tying down large numbers of besiegers. And that is after being surprised and surrounded by the attack up from Crimea.

The Ukrainian Naval Brigade performed with honor. They apparently resisted to the limit of their ability, in terms of material means, and held out far longer than anyone had a right to expect.
They reflect great credit on the Ukrainian armed forces.
