Most Americans are in agreement that the “worst” of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic is “behind us,” a YouGov/TheEconomist survey found.

The survey asked respondents to indicate where they believe the world is in terms of the pandemic.

It does not seem likely the virus cares about surveys.

I think the virus has become entirely political. In two years this virus has gone from deadly to highly contagious and not particularly dangerous. This is the natural evolution of a pandemic. It is over and behind us — despite the panic of increasing numbers in the media, hospitals are quiet and not with new cases.

It is time to stop the hysterical testing, produce appropriate monoclonals, and oral antivirals, and have the government stop with its lunacy.

Indeed, it is over, except for the politics.

Well Doc, glad to see you have come around.

I know in the past you were relying on the published 'science' among your peers to base your medical opinions here but many of us smelled the scam from the beginning and always believed it was more politically driven than not.

380 or so S. Korean deaths today. I’m pretty sure they have no interest in US politics.

Russia’s deathcount today 261 and showing signs of leveling the decline from the Omicron peak of 780 or so. Rather similarly, they have no interest in US politics.

Nor does the virus there or here. The fearful folks understandably tell themselves it’s all past and this decline is somehow different from previous declines. If you are strong minded, you look at global data and see there is no reason to imagine anything but another surge.

I watched a hockey game broadcast from Canada - the stadium was full and not a mask in sight.

And think - it was only 2+ months ago the Covid Nazis were attacking Canadian truckers for being against Covid lockdowns.

The Truckers WON - its just the covid nazis won’t admit defeat.

I respectfully disagree — I think there is evolution of the virus as predicted by the laws of epidemiology — and that is where we are. I do not think it was a scam — certainly the month of august last year in the Deep South was harrowing. But I think honestly there has been way too little discernment and too much politicization on both sides. I have always tried to pick the sources that seem to actually unemotionally view what the state of the pandemic was and is.

I will continually attempt to see thing for what they are instead of throughs the lens of politics — at least when it comes to science.

Is the worst of out of control government behind us?

The surges are in terms of cases reported. Drilling down on the data there are not increases in incidence of hospitalization or death. While you might point to absolute numbers, the real measure is not the raw number but the numbers as a percentage of the total cases.

If we look at it from the proper standpoint — the incidence of hospitalization and death has fallen with each subsequent surge since delta (Omicron, and variant of omicron).

Looking at the data are indeed important — but properly interpreting the data is what leads to conclusions. I believe you are not interpreting the data correctly.

Thanks for your response; but do you believe the continual mask mandates, mandatory business closures in some states and vaccination mandates were necessary, and did they do any good in suppressing the spread of the virus?

I’d be careful making predictions about the worst being over. I’d love for it to be so, but I worry that all those compromised immune systems from the vaccines have set us up for the next designer virus the WEF has in its bag of tricks.

I have always spoken against any mandate. I refuse to mandate my employees having vaccination. I believe masks were a perversion of science — they dont work. If you truly needed a mask mandate, it would have been with P-100 masks and then people would have had to learn how to use them. They do not know how to use them. It was at best virtue signaling to wear masks. As a point of science, when I was mucking around in the airways of the people who had CoVID, for my protection I wore the highest level of masks (P-100 respirators). I could to smell anything and they were incredibly tight fighting. If you could smell through a mask you were wearing — it was not effective to prevent spread. So as a point of science — mask mandates were nothing more than political grandstanding.

As for business closures — also total bullish*t. Not only do I believe that they were unconstitutional, I believe that were idiotic. I guess I still believe in an individual has the right to assess the risk of anything as it pertains to him or herself, and then act in his or her best interest. I think the individual knows what is best for him or her. The government should stay out of private sector and private decision. Period.

I believe this disease had been the first pandemic broadcast in real time and with the speed and inaccuracies of social media and the internet. It has allowed people to broadcast emotional, and untested information, and proclaim expertise in areas in which there is none. Discernment of what actually is has become extremely difficult due to the cacophony of noise that can be broadcast by everyone with a computer connection or cell phone.

The disease is the disease, and I think it is fairly obvious how it has evolved. The politics surrounding it is what is novel. The science around the disease has evolved — the politics have only worsened.

Anyway, thanks of your kindness. I appreciate your insights very much.

South Korea as of 16 April 2022 --

( 20,889 Covid deaths / 51,347,871 South Koreans ) x 100 = 0.04 % mortality rate in South Korea. In plain English, four one-hunredths of one percent over twenty-eight months.

Russia as of today --

( 365,540 Covid deaths / 146,046,055 ) x 100 = 0.25 % mortality rate in the Russian Federation. In plain English, onequarter of one percent over more than two year.

Global stats as of today --

( 6,196,927 deaths globally / 7,940,837,853 global population ) x 100 = 0.078 % global mortality rate since the beginning of the pandemic.

As gas_dr suggests, "Indeed, it is over, except for the politics."
