For years, from Mali to Afghanistan, I have worked for peace and risked my life for it. It is therefore not a question of justifying war, but of understanding what led us to it.
Let's try to examine the roots of the Ukrainian conflict. It starts with those who for the last eight years have been talking about "separatists" or "independentists" from Donbass. This is a misnomer. The referendums conducted by the two self-proclaimed Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in May 2014, were not referendums of "independence" (независимость), as some unscrupulous journalists have claimed, but referendums of "self-determination" or "autonomy" (самостоятельность). The qualifier "pro-Russian" suggests that Russia was a party to the conflict, which was not the case, and the term "Russian speakers" would have been more honest. Moreover, these referendums were conducted against the advice of Vladimir Putin.

No evidence of Ukrainian bombardment of the Donbass in February was ever provided by Russia. What Russia DID provide was bullshit like claiming the Ukrainians blew up a Kindergarten in the Donbass, but it was actually a Kindergarten in Ukrainian controlled territory:

I also recall large numbers of social media posts by people in the Donbass complaining/reporting of OUTGOING and non-stop artillery fire from Donbass into Ukraine.
Yet another lie in a legion of lies put forth by you, Kabar.
You talk about homos too much.
Even for a swabbie.
Even so, I still learned a lot from this article. For example, I was shocked to read that 2 Ukrainian negotiators pushing for peace were assassinated in March by paramilitary groups! So much for Zelenskyy caring for the safety of Ukrainians by deliberately rejecting an end to the violence. I also hadn’t heard much about the Ukrainian National Guard and their relationship to the brutal paramilitary groups like Azov.
Thanks again for sharing this with us. It’s a lot to digest but it’s the kind of info we need before jumping on the bandwagon for Ukraine or Russia.
You post an article from the Guardian and expect to be taken seriously? 🤣
Each of these countries was led by Totalitarian regimes hostile to the United States and Israel.
Regardless about whether it was wise to attempt nation building or not, killing Saddam or taking out the Taliban is hardly the same thing as Russia gang raping little girls in Bucha because Ukraine, a free country, refused to be enslaved by the Neo-USSR.
Due to the stream of lies fed to us by Russia and its agents in the West about Ukraine, I am no longer willing to believe what we have heard about Syria or Libya that comes from these same sources, including claims that the WMD attacks on Syrian civilians were "false flags."
Unfortunately, my research is far from complete, but I suspect we have been lied to for years on many different issues.
Why haven't the Minsk agreements been implemented? Zelensky was elected as the peace candidate. His own militia rebuffed him.
In 2019, Zelensky announced a partial withdrawal of forces from Donbass. His soldiers revolted. He went to Zolote to speak to them. Azov troops told him they wouldn't let him pull back. Here he is getting chewed out by a soldier. Later, nationalists threatened to kill him.
And what are your qualifications to determine that fact? 🤣
You guys are free to side with the former KGB guy, the Communist Chinese Party, and Iran. Fortunately, your opinion is a tiny minority within the U.S., and is irrelevant as a consequence.
Stop posting crap from euromaidanpress if you expect to be taken seriously, FFS.
Is that the criterion for invading sovereign countries? Do you have any understanding of how many countries that encompasses or the violation of international law and custom?

How many civilians were killed in Iraq including children? Afghanistan? Syria? Vietnam?

That's precisely my point. The American public is being dragged into another war without having all the facts. Anyone who questions these lies is canceled or demonized. The reaction on this thread by some people to the views of a retired Swiss Colonel reflects how much we have been brainwashed. We must question everything. The war in Ukraine could have been avoided.
What is the use of posting this? Implying that Zelensky believed that Russia had completely fulfilled its role in Minsk? Zelensky making moves to encourage change/peace in the Donbas rather works against you, since you have just claimed that Ukraine was bombarding the Donbass in February, forcing Russia to invade.
I notice that Russian bullshit typically relies on innuendo but fails when asked to make direct, logical connections with the things they are saying.
Re: "the pandora papers"
Under no circumstances am I going to waste my life reviewing the Pandora papers and coming to the conclusion of whether or not Zelenskyy had an offshore account somewhere in the Cayman islands.
It is utterly irrelevant to everything posted here, and is rather small potatoes compared to what Western politicians get into, and is utterly dwarfed by the epic levels of corruption by Putin himself, who has amassed a $200 billion fortune (or more?) by being a career KGB agent and politician.
The article cites the OSCE report and includes the video, so this attempt at attacking the source falls flat, as usual.
Do you have proof of Russian soldiers raping little girls in Bucha or do you blindly believe everything you read? I’ve heard the same stories but it was the Ukrainian troops doing the raping and killing. That’s the textbook definition of propaganda. There’s no evidence it even happened but ppl decide to believe whichever side they’ve already allied themselves with. Then they think they actually “know the facts.” 🤣
Ukraine has been shelling Donbas ever since 2014. Why haven’t they indicted for war crimes.
Now hold on a minute: you are defending the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine is not a totalitarian regime, although you have attempted to paint it in the worst light possible.
Ukrainian women and children are being raped in documented cases across the country.
Clearly you are not against the invasion of "sovereign countries," so why are you offended?
My only point is that Iraq/Afghanistan were objectively evil, so your attempt to paint the USA as a villain is false.
We can be wrong. We can make big mistakes. We can accidentally kill civilians in wars that were a waste of time--not due to the wickedness of our intentions, but the corruption of the people who lived there. But is killing Saddam morally the same as Russia invading Ukraine? Absolutely not!
That's precisely my point. The American public is being dragged into another war without having all the facts.
You are not providing facts here. You are providing lies that are not new at all to this forum. They have been repeated constantly since February, over and over again.
These things are being documented right now by multiple human rights organizations, media organizations and governments.
The "it's all a conspiracy!" is going to hold up as well as denying the Holocaust.
And you and your cohorts are free to side with a corrupt country that embraces white nationalism; target Jews, gays, and minorities; and is a hub of child pornography in Europe. It’s also the center of the fight between the globalists and the traditionalists. If your side wins, you can say goodbye to American Exceptionalism, and you ppl will share in the blame.
I posted an article by Elena Kostyuchenko of Novaya Gazeta, published in The Guardian. Read before you criticize.
All of this is complete insanity and nonsense. Meanwhile, the OP is posting an article from an obscure website that someone undoubtedly posted there in order to camouflage the fact that it ORIGINATED on Unz Review, a website that denies the Holocaust, targets Jews, gays, and minorities!
They’re being documented by many different international human rights groups, except it’s the Ukrainians who are the perpetrators in most of the cases. You chose to take the side of Ukraine months ago and refuse to even entertain the idea that the brutal white nationalist Ukrainian troops can do any wrong. That’s the definition of brain washed.
